Article Abstract

An interlaboratory comparison (ILC) was organized with the aim to set up quality control indicators suitable for multicomponent quantitative analysis by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. A total of 36 NMR data sets (corresponding to 1260 NMR spectra) were produced by 30 participants using 34 NMR spectrometers. The calibration line method was chosen for the quantification of a five-component model mixture. Results show that quantitative NMR is a robust quantification tool and that 26 out of 36 data sets resulted in statistically equivalent calibration lines for all considered NMR signals. The performance of each laboratory was assessed by means of a new performance index (named Qp-score) which is related to the difference between the experimental and the consensus values of the slope of the calibration lines. Laboratories endowed with a Qp-score falling within the suitable acceptability range are qualified to produce NMR spectra that can be considered statistically equivalent in terms of relative intensities of the signals. In addition, the specific response of nuclei to the experimental excitation/relaxation conditions was addressed by means of the parameter named NR. NR is related to the difference between the theoretical and the consensus slopes of the calibration lines and is specific for each signal produced by a well-defined set of acquisition parameters.

Background: XPR1 is crucial in the development of some tumors, yet its association with endometrial cancer (EC) remains uncertain. We propose that XPR1 exhibits elevated expression in EC and is significantly linked to unfavorable patient outcomes, positioning it as a prospective prognostic biomarker.

Methods: This study investigated XPR1 expression in 554 Uterine Corpus Endometrial Carcinoma(UCEC) cases and 35 normal tissue samples using the The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA) database.

Unlabelled: Ovarian cancer (OC), a predominant gynecological malignancy, has consistently showcased grim prognostic outcomes. This investigation delves into the emerging field of pyroptosis and the intricacies of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), specifically the lesser-studied pyroptosis-related lncRNAs (PRlncRNAs), and their roles in OC prognosis. By harnessing transcriptome, and clinic data from the genotype-tissue expression (GTEx) and the cancer genome Atlas (TCGA), we formulated a unique PRlncRNAs risk model consisting of five prognostic lncRNAs by Cox regression and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression.

Sparge Sampling of Molten Salts for Online Monitoring via Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy.

ACS Omega

August 2025

Radioisotope Science and Technology Division, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, 1 Bethel Valley Road, Oak Ridge, Tennessee 37830, United States.

A method was developed to sample molten salts by sparging to generate and transport aerosols to an isolated instrument for compositional analysis by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). Real-time monitoring of molten salt composition is critical to developing molten salt nuclear reactors, which offer enhanced safety and efficiency. In this article, the sparge sampling method is described and compared with sampling using a Collison nebulizer.

A SERS-active plasmonic nanosensor-chemometrics platform reveals a biphasic zinc switch that controls breast-cancer metastasis.

Labile Zn is emerging as a quantitative driver, not just a biomarker, of metastasis, yet rapid, second-resolved intracellular measurement remains elusive. Here we engineer terpyridine-functionalised, hollow Au@SiO nanocapsules (NCs@TPY) and couple their SERS signal to cell-specific partial-least-squares (PLS) chemometrics, yielding an 8-log dynamic range (10 - 10 M), a low-nanomolar detection limit and ≤4.5 % cross-validated error while rejecting Ca/Mg interference.

A Blur Feature-Guided Cascaded Calibration Method for Plenoptic Cameras.

Sensors (Basel)

August 2025

College of Resource Environment and Tourism, Capital Normal University, Beijing 100048, China.

Accurate and robust calibration of multifocal plenoptic cameras is essential for high-precision 3D light field reconstruction. In this work, we propose a blur feature-guided cascaded calibration for the plenoptic camera. First, white images at different aperture values are used to estimate the high-confidence center point and radius of micro-images, and the defocus theory is used to estimate the initial values of the intrinsic parameters.
