Collection of fluid from the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract is commonly necessary for research projects, but presents challenges including intestinal motility and potential for leakage of intestinal contents. In this study, ultrafiltration collection devices were surgically implanted in the ileum and spiral colon of 12 steers for repeated collection of intestinal fluid over 48 hours. There were no significant complications associated with surgery or during the post-operative period, nor were there any significant pathologic changes found at necropsy 3 or 4 days post-surgery. Over 48 hours, we obtained 88% of the desired 212 samples. Only two devices failed to routinely collect samples. Use of ultrafiltration probes is a novel, consistent and humane method to repeatedly sample the gastrointestinal contents.

Purpose: We developed a totally intracorporeal neobladder (ICNB) reconstruction technique, termed the Juntendo technique, which features a more spherical configuration by advancing from a hybrid neobladder reconstruction approach. In this report, we describe this ICNB procedure and its outcomes from our initial clinical experience.
Materials And Methods: Between March 2022 and December 2024, 20 male patients underwent neobladder reconstruction (hybrid reconstruction in the first 10 and totally intracorporeal reconstruction in the other 10) following robot-assisted radical cystectomy.

The aim of this study was to compare Wafi ileostomy to Brooke ileostomy in patients undergoing elective resection for stage 3 rectal cancer in terms of ileostomy creation and reversal-related complications. This was a prospective cohort study enrolling consecutive patients with stage 3 distal rectal cancer undergoing elective TME with Wafi or Brooke ileostomy at a median 8-week interval following neoadjuvant chemoradiation in two institutions. Wafi ileostomy was defined as the insertion of a soft polyvinylchloride spiral endotracheal tube into the afferent limb of the terminal ileum with a flexible rubber band passed behind the backwall of its efferent limb to occlude.

Obtaining clear images is of great help in determining the type and etiology of AIO, and doctors can quickly develop treatment plans to improve prognosis and efficacy.
Methods: The clinical data of patients with suspected AIO admitted to our hospital from May 2020 to May 2022 were retrospectively selected as the observation objects.

Introduction: The gastrointestinal microbiota profoundly influences the health and productivity of animals. This study aimed to characterize microbial community structures of the mouth, gastrointestinal tract (GIT), and feces of cattle.
Methods: Samples were collected from 18 Akaushi crossbred steers at harvest from multiple locations, including the oral cavity, rumen, abomasum, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, cecum, spiral colon, distal colon, and feces.
