The design of molecular catalysts that mimic the behavior of enzymes is a topical field of activity in emerging technologies, and can lead to an improved understanding of biological systems. Herein, we report how the bulky arms of the cations in [(n C4 H9 )4 N](+) [HCO3 ](-) give rise to a host scaffold that emulates the substrate binding sites in carbonic anhydrase enzymes, affording a unique glimpse of an arrested intermediate in the base-mediated binding and activation of CO2 .

Objective: To report the outcome of a dog with severe mitral regurgitation (MR) treated with open-heart surgery using the modified taut-line hitch (modified TLH) knot technique.
Methods: A 9-year-old, 8.8-kg intact male Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was referred for clinical signs of congestive heart failure secondary to severe mitral regurgitation.
Background: Evidence on the effect of treatment at a cardiac arrest center (CAC) on clinical outcomes is incomplete and conflicting. The aim was to evaluate the effect of treatment at a CAC on survival after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
Methods: For this retrospective cohort study, data from all 790 consecutive patients admitted to our center from January 2018 to May 2023 after nontraumatic out-of hospital cardiac arrest were analyzed.

Boravinylidenes are intermediates in 1,1-hydroboration reactions of alkynes en route to vinyl boranes. Unlike transition metal-vinylidene complexes, boravinylidenes have hitherto, not been crystallographically characterized. Pairing bis(trimethylsilyl)ethyne with an extremely potent hydroboration reagent, bis(1-methyl--carboranyl)borane, enables crystallization and characterization of a boravinylidene.

The regulation of organ size is a fundamental biological question. This study investigates how feather length is regulated in chickens. We found that collar bulge stem cell zones vary in size: main sickle > lesser sickle > contour feathers.

Intermediate-risk pulmonary embolism (IRPE) is a critical clinical entity with significant mortality risk due to normotensive shock, a condition marked by low cardiac index despite maintained blood pressure. Accurate and timely detection of hemodynamic compromise in IRPE remains a challenge. Velocity Time Integral (VTI), a Doppler echocardiographic parameter, has emerged as a potential non-invasive tool for predicting hospital outcomes, but the evidence remains fragmented.
