A hemagglutinating virus (8KS0813) was isolated from a red-necked stint. Hemagglutination inhibition and neutralization tests indicated that 8KS0813 was antigenically related to a prototype strain, APMV-6/duck/Hong Kong/18/199/77, but with an 8- and 16-fold difference, respectively, in their titers. The full genome sequence of 8KS0813 showed 98.6 % nucleotide sequence identity to that of APMV-6/duck/Italy/4524-2/07, which has been reported to belong to an APMV-6 subgroup, and showed less similarity to that of the prototype strain (70.6 % similarity). The growth of 8KS0813 and the prototype strain in four different cell cultures was greatly enhanced by adding trypsin. Interestingly, this virus induced syncytia only in Vero cells. 8KS0813 was identified as APMV-6/red-necked stint/Japan/8KS0813/08, but it is antigenically and genetically distinguishable from the prototype strain, suggesting that variant APMV-6 is circulating in migratory birds.

The screw-retained implant-supported crown is a durable, aesthetic restoration, but debonding between the crown and abutment remains a challenge to survivability. The purpose of this work was to devise an abutment shape that can be embedded into the crown while the crown is being additively manufactured. The result was a mechanically retained, no-adhesive abutment and crown unit that is mounted to the implant fixture.

A prototype bioactive calcium phosphate model-specifically hydroxyapatite (HA) derived from eggshells-was developed using a sodium silicate (NaSiO) solution as an inorganic binder, precursor, and reinforcing agent, in combination with collagen nanofibers for bone engineering applications. The sodium silicate solution, functioning as a waterglass adhesive, introduced cohesive forces within the hydroxyapatite matrix, thereby enhancing its physical, chemical, and mechanical properties. Eggshell-derived bioactive hydroxyapatite offers several advantages, including non-toxicity, biocompatibility, collagen adhesion, and the ability to mimic bone structure, making it suitable for tissue engineering.

High-power giant magnetostrictive underwater transducers are integral to underwater active sonar detection systems due to their high energy density, rapid dynamic response, and significant output force. However, these transducers exhibit complex nonlinear dynamic hysteresis behavior, which is influenced by the coupling of electric, magnetic, mechanical, and acoustic fields. This complexity presents considerable challenges in accurately characterizing their output properties.

Lassa virus (LASV) is circulating in rodents in several countries in West Africa and is the causative agent of the zoonotic disease Lassa fever. Several vaccine candidates have been successfully tested in preclinical and clinical research, while no LASV-specific vaccines or antiviral treatments have been licensed to date. Approximately 500,000 human cases of Lassa fever are estimated to occur every year.

The markedly reduced pathogenicity of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Omicron variant in comparison to earlier strains has raised critical questions regarding its underlying mechanisms. To elucidate the host immune responses driving these differences, we performed single-cell transcriptomic profiling of lung and blood samples from human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (hACE2) transgenic mice infected with either the SARS-CoV-2 prototype strain or the Omicron BA.1 variant at 5 days post-inoculation.
