We have performed a shape optimization of the disc in an industrial double-eccentric butterfly valve using the effect analysis of design variables to enhance the valve performance. For the optimization, we select three performance quantities such as pressure drop, maximum stress, and mass (weight) as the responses and three dimensions regarding the disc shape as the design variables. Subsequently, we compose a layout of orthogonal array (L16) by performing numerical simulations on the flow and structure using a commercial package, ANSYS v13.0, and then make an effect analysis of the design variables on the responses using the design of experiments. Finally, we formulate a multiobjective function consisting of the three responses and then propose an optimal combination of the design variables to maximize the valve performance. Simulation results show that the disc thickness makes the most significant effect on the performance and the optimal design provides better performance than the initial design.

Adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors are widely used in gene therapy, particularly for liver-targeted treatments. However, predicting human-specific outcomes, such as transduction efficiency and hepatotoxicity, remains challenging. Reliable models are urgently needed to bridge the gap between preclinical studies and clinical applications.

Study Question: Do social determinants of health (SDoH) influence the age at menopause among women?
Summary Answer: In our study, adverse SDoH, particularly family low income-to-poverty ratio (PIR), low education level, and the marital status of being widowed, are associated with earlier age at menopause.
What Is Known Already: Some prior studies have considered certain SDoH variables (such as educational attainment and marital status) as potential factors influencing age at menopause, but systematic evidence clearly defining the relationship between multidimensional SDoH and menopausal age remains lacking.
Study Design Size Duration: This cross-sectional analysis included 6083 naturally menopausal women from 10 cycles (1999-2018) of the United States National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and excluded cases of surgical menopause.
Most of the United States (US) population resides in cities, where they are subjected to the urban heat island effect. In this study, we develop a method to estimate hourly air temperatures at resolution, improving exposure assessment of US population when compared to existing gridded products. We use an extensive network of personal weather stations to capture the intra-urban variability.

Background: Encounters with threats can lead to a motivation to justify the existing social system, which can be expressed through endorsement of system-justifying beliefs.
Objective: The aim of the study was to examine how difierent types of threats contribute to endorsement of system-justifying beliefs in the economic domain.
Design: We tested a theoretical model ( = 577) with internal threats (fear of death), economic threats (threats of poverty and socio-economic inequality), and subjective threat perception (belief in a dangerous and competitive world) as predictors; system-justifying beliefs (economic system justification, opposition to equality, dominance, and antiegalitarianism) served as dependent variables, and sociodemographic characteristics were included as control variables.

Objective: In bipolar disorder, residual mood symptoms often persist even during the euthymic period, impairing functionality in 30-60% of patients in clinical remission. Addressing residual symptoms is critical as they are linked to reduced functionality and subjective wellbeing. This cross-sectional study aimed to determine the relationship between mindful attention awareness (MASS) and residual symptom severity in bipolar I disorder.
