A commercial PCR assay of perirectal swab specimens detected 17 (68%) of 25 asymptomatic carriers of toxigenic Clostridium difficile, including 93% with skin and/or environmental contamination. A clinical prediction rule, followed by PCR screening, could be used to identify carriers at high risk of C. difficile shedding.

Background: To improve the molecular diagnostic yield for Aspergillus spp. from respiratory samples, we developed and evaluated a new DNA extraction method directly from respiratory samples combined with in-house Aspergillus real-time PCR.
Methods: We developed a method using beads and resin, where a sample is centrifuged to separate the supernatant and pellet.

Objectives: This study compared the diagnostic accuracy of seven different commercial serological assays for COVID-19, using RT-PCR as the gold standard, through meta-analysis and indirect comparison.
Methods: Fifty-seven studies, published from November 2019 to June 2024, were included. The diagnostic performance of IgA, IgG, and total antibody assays for SARS-CoV-2 was assessed.

Unlabelled: Accurate methods to assess viral viability are crucial for determining isolation duration and antiviral therapy in immunocompromised patients. Although cell culture (CC) is the gold standard, it has limitations. Cycle threshold (Ct) values from genomic RNA (gRNA) RT-PCR and subgenomic RNA (sgRNA) RT-PCR have been proposed as markers of active viral replication.

Introduction: Sulforaphane (SFN) is recognized for its anti-inflammatory properties; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we explored the effect of SFN on subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and the potential mechanisms.
Methods: Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were divided into three groups (n = 12): Sham + vehicle group (Sham + V), SAH + vehicle group (SAH + V), and SAH + SFN group (SAH + S).

Introduction: Obesity remains a critical global health challenge, intricately linked to poor dietary quality, gut microbiota dysbiosis, and mitochondrial dysfunction.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the comparative effects of brown rice, meal replacements, and thiazolidinediones on mitochondrial abundance and gut microbiota composition in a rat model of diet-induced obesity.
Methods And Materials: A total of twenty male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly assigned to five groups: control, high-fat high-fructose diet, and three intervention groups receiving the same obesogenic diet supplemented with brown rice, meal replacement, or thiazolidinediones for twelve weeks.
