Article Abstract

Background: The gallbladder is an organ with accurate functions of concentrating and storing bile and regulating the bile flow. Cholecystectomy is associated with some severe complications in some patients. This study was to investigate the safety and effectiveness of gallbladder-preserving cholelithotomy (GPC) for patients with gallstones in laparoscopic and flexible choledochoscopic era.

Methods: From January 2006 to January 2007, a total of 316 patients with gallstone were assigned to GPC according to our inclusion criteria at Yunna Lithiasis Hospital. The procedures were performed by 1 surgical team under laparoscopic and flexible choledochoscopic guidance. The short-term clinical outcome and long-term gallstone recurrence rate were evaluated.

Results: The success rate of GPC was 95.25%. No severe postoperative complications such as bile leakage and hemorrhage occurred. Conversion to cholecystectomy was required in 15 patients. During 25 to 72 months of follow-up, the gallstone recurrence rate at 12, 36, and 60 months were 0%, 3.32%, and 5.64%, respectively.

Conclusion: GPC using laparoscopy and flexible choledochoscopy is safe and effective in selected patients, the stone recurrence rate is acceptable.

Objective: Rigid suction-coagulation probes constrain the wrist-like articulation that is central to robotic surgery. We therefore designed a 5-mm single-use flexible suction ball coagulator (flex-SBC) with a modified core design to restore dexterity and assessed its mechanical performance and early clinical feasibility, including the effect of the common robotic gripping strategies on suction flow.

Methods: Preclinical.

Background: Endometriosis symptoms have multifaceted manifestations, and there are few approved nonsurgical treatment options. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists/antagonists for endometriosis vary on efficacy, safety profile, and out-of-pocket (OOP) cost, among other features.

Objectives: This study quantified the importance that women with endometriosis in the United States (US) placed on pain and non-pain features that differ among these medications.

BACKGROUND Atrial septal defect (ASD) occluder devices present a novel approach for managing persistent gastric leaks following sleeve gastrectomy. While sleeve gastrectomy is effective, postoperative leak rates reach up to 3% in primary surgeries and exceed 10% in revisions, with management remaining complex and non-standardized. CASE REPORT This case report describes a 20-year-old Saudi woman who developed a gastric leak after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

Our study aimed to analyzed the effectiveness and safety of tubeless mini percutaneous nephrolithotomy (tmPCNL) and negative pressure combined with retrograde intrarenal surgery (nRIRS) for 2 to 3 cm renal stones. A total of 557 patients underwent tmPCNL or nRIRS for renal stones in our department from October 2022 to February 2024. Combining inclusion and exclusion criteria, 153 cases were included and divided into tmPCNL group (n = 76) and nRIRS group (n = 77) according to the surgical method.
