We propose an approach to generate true random number sequences based on the discretized encoding of the time interval between photons. The method is simple and efficient, and can produce a highly random sequence several times longer than that of other methods based on threshold or parity selection, without the need for hashing. A proof-of-principle experiment has been performed, showing that the system could be easily integrated and applied to quantum cryptography and other fields.

The combination of targeted therapies and immunotherapies for advanced and metastatic sarcomas has been proposed owing to the enhanced effect of antiangiogenic therapies on the tumor microenvironment. We found eight studies published to date assessing the effectiveness of combined multitargeted vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-tyrosine kinase inhibitors with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in sarcoma. It is difficult to draw conclusions owing to limited data and primarily single-arm studies, although initial literature appears promising and requires further study.

Introduction: Understanding how neural networks process complex patterns of information is crucial for advancing both neuroscience and artificial intelligence. To investigate fundamental principles of neural computation, we examined whether dissociated neuronal cultures, one of the most primitive living neural networks, exhibit regularity sensitivity beyond mere stimulus-specific adaptation and deviance detection.
Methods: We recorded activity to oddball electrical stimulation paradigms from dissociated rat cortical neurons cultured on high-resolution CMOS microelectrode arrays.

Purpose: Glioblastoma (GBM) remains one of the most aggressive primary brain tumors with poor survival outcomes and a lack of approved therapies. A promising novel approach for GBM is the application of photodynamic therapy (PDT), a localized, light-activated treatment using tumor-selective photosensitizers. This narrative review describes the mechanisms, delivery systems, photosensitizers, and available evidence regarding the potential of PDT as a novel therapeutic approach for GBM.

A randomized clinical trial with multiple experimental groups and one common control group is often used to speed up development to select the best experimental regimen or to increase the chance of success of clinical trials. Most of the time, multiple dose levels of an experimental drug or multiple combinations of one experimental drug with other drugs comprise multiple experimental groups. Because the experimental drug appears in multiple comparisons with a shared control group, multiple testing adjustments to control the family-wise type I error rate are needed.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication in patients affected by COVID-19 and has been strongly associated with increased mortality. However, its independent contribution remains debated. This study aimed to evaluate the independent association using a directed acyclic graph-based approach.
