Ab initio computations are performed to investigate properties of bulk material and epitaxial films made of EuTiO3 (ETO). A whole family of nanoscale twinned phases, that present complex oxygen octahedra tilting (OOT) and unusual antiferroelectricity, is found to be degenerate in energy with simpler phases (all possessing typical OOT) in bulk ETO. Such degeneracy provides a successful explanation of recently observed anomalous phenomena. The calculations also lead to revisiting the (rich) phase diagram of ETO films.

A key challenge in capturing CO from postcombustion gases is humidity due to competitive adsorption between CO and HO. Multivariate (MTV) metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been considered a promising option to address this problem, e.g.

Biochar has emerged as a promising soil amendment for improving soil quality and mitigating environmental impacts, such as nutrient leaching. This study evaluated the impacts of ball-milled bamboo nano-biochar on water infiltration dynamics, retention capacity, and nitrogen‑phosphorus leaching in sandy loam soil using controlled column experiments and leaching experiments with five application doses alongside bulk biochar and untreated controls. Experimental results demonstrated that nano-biochar application significantly enhanced soil water retention capacity compared to the raw soil.

The soil in reclaimed shale gas sites is compacted and suffers from issues like poor drainage, drought conditions, and nutrient deficiency, posing challenges for agricultural production. In this study, rare earth tailings were incorporated into biochar at different mass ratios (rare earth tailings: biochar = 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4). Subsequently, a series of rare earth tailings-doped biochar materials (REE-BC) were prepared by calcination at 700°C.

This study assessed the effect of saliva exposure on roughness (Ra) and Vickers hardness (VHN) of two direct restorative materials, enamel, and dentin adjacent to the restorations. Enamel and dentin cavities in molars (n = 10) were restored with a) bulk-fill resin composite (Tetric N-Flow Bulk Fill, BF) with the application of a universal adhesive (Tetric N-Bond Universal) and b) alkasite restorative material (Cention N, CN) with and without the application of a universal adhesive. After 24 h (baseline), surface roughness and hardness of the restorative material and dental tissues were assessed at 100 μm from the tooth/restoration interface.
