The aims of present study were (1) to determine changes in kinematic and kinetic variables at 3 and 12 months after open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of pelvic ring fracture and (2) to determine the factor(s) associated with gait disorders that correlate with gait parameters measured at 12 months after surgery. Nineteen patients with pelvic ring fractures underwent ORIF and examined at 3 and 12 months postoperatively. The study also included a similar number of age-matched control subjects. Peak hip abduction angle, peak hip extension moment in the stance, peak hip abduction moment, and peak ankle plantarflexion moment at 3 months after ORIF were significantly lower than the respective control values. At 12 months, complete recovery was noted in peak hip abduction moment and peak ankle plantarflexion moment, whereas the recovery in peak hip abduction angle and peak hip extension moment in the stance was partial. The existence of neurological lesions and strength asymmetry of hip abductor and adductor at 3 months post-ORIF correlated with decreased peak hip abduction moment after ORIF. Our results highlighted characteristic gait patterns up to 12 months after ORIF for pelvic fracture, and these patterns correlated with neurological lesion and weakness of hip abductor and adductor muscles.

However, interpreting the gold-standard cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) is complicated by increasing body size and varying body composition. We hypothesised that the 'metabolic cost of external work' (or oxygen uptake (ml/min)/workload (Watts); V̇O/W), a body weight-independent determinant of endurance capacity, would reflect metabolic health more accurately than V̇O alone.

Aims: This retrospective observational study aimed to determine the in vivo joint loads in the knee after total knee arthroplasty during early postoperative rehabilitation involving different physiotherapy exercises and to analyze how these loads change over the first three weeks postoperatively.
Methods: Nine patients (six males, three females) with a primary instrumented total knee replacement participated in the study. A total of 19 selected physical therapy exercises of varying load levels were performed on the ninth (SD 3) and 21st (SD 6) postoperative day.

Background: Previous studies show that during level walking, the load on the contralateral side increases with more proximal amputation levels. Furthermore, a typical compensation mechanism, vaulting on the contralateral side, may also influence the load. The purpose of this study was to investigate if lumbopelvic-hip control was correlated with shoulder and elbow joint moments and drive leg ground reaction force (GRF) in high school baseball pitchers. The hypothesis was that poorer lumbopelvic-hip control would be correlated with higher joint moments and lower drive leg GRF.
