September 2025

Retinal Disorders and Ophthalmic Genetics Division, Stein Eye Institute, University of California of Los Angeles, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Los Angeles, California, United States.

Purpose: To describe a case of recalcitrant bilateral peripapillary pachychoroid syndrome (PPS) treated with high-dose (HD) intravitreal aflibercept injections.

Methods: Medical and imaging records were retrospectively evaluated. Multimodal imaging included ultra-widefield indocyanine green and fluorescein angiography and fundus autofluorescence.

Purpose: To describe the clinical and multimodal imaging features of a novel form of macular neovascularization (MNV), designated Type 4 MNV, defined by mixed Type 1 and Type 2 neovascularization (NV), extensive intraretinal anastomotic NV, and central posterior hyaloid fibrosis (CPHF).

Methods: This multicenter retrospective observational case series included patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) exhibiting both Type 1 and 2 MNV and an overlying anastomotic intraretinal NV network. This was confirmed with OCT and OCT angiography (OCTA).

Background: Isotretinoin, or 13-cis retinoic acid, is prescribed to treat moderate to severe recalcitrant nodulocystic acne that remains untreated with other drugs, such as antibiotics. The adverse effect profile of isotretinoin has raised concerns since studies have reported a substantial elevation in the low-density lipoprotein (LDL)/high-density lipoprotein (HDL) ratio, indicating the risk of cardiovascular diseases after a long-term course of isotretinoin. Assessing the impact of isotretinoin on lipid profile markers in acne patients was the aim of this systematic review.

Acne conglobata is a severe, often eruptive, form of acne included in the follicular occlusion tetrad along with hidradenitis suppurativa, pilonidal cysts, and dissecting cellulitis of the scalp. The pathogenesis is complex and likely multifactorial with contribution from both extrinsic and intrinsic factors. Studies have shown a slight male predominance.

Dermatophyte infections, also known as tinea, along with viral warts, are common skin conditions that can be difficult to treat, especially when they recur or resist standard therapies. Isotretinoin, a medication traditionally used for acne, has recently shown promise as an adjuvant therapy for these conditions. This retrospective case-series study included four adult patients with persistent or recurrent tinea infections (tinea cruris and tinea corporis) or viral warts (genital and facial) who were treated with oral isotretinoin in addition to standard therapies.
