Background: Appendicectomy is a well-established surgical procedure used for managing of acute appendicitis. In open appendicectomy, McBurney's point is the surgical landmark for locating the appendix, and it is common practice to make an incision there. However, in this study, we identified the root of the appendix via computed tomography, made an incision around that sites, and performed the appendicectomy through this incision.

Mapping female ageing in the twenty-first century in Deborah Moggach's last novels.

J Aging Stud

September 2025

Universitat de Lleida, Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Pl. Víctor Siurana, 1, 25003 Lleida, Spain. Electronic address:

Despite having published seventeen novels, a good number of short stories, and scripts since she started her writing career at the end of the 1970s, academic work on Moggach's literary career has mainly dealt with her novel These Foolish Things (2004) and its film version The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011). This paper will focus on Moggach's last three novels in which the reader is guided by the voice of three women in their late sixties and seventies, namely Something to Hide (2015), The Carer (2019), and The Black Dress (2021). Following an already well-established body of criticism on representations of female ageing in fiction, this paper will argue that Moggach's last novels add nuance and richness to the representation of female ageing in the twenty-first century.

Congenital hearing loss is a significant health problem, with a worldwide incidence of >6 per 1000 live births. Late diagnosis will delay appropriate treatment, leading to potential neurodevelopment problems. Early diagnosis requires neonatal hearing screening, where one of the most used techniques is automated Auditory Brainstem Responses (aABR).

Traditionally, clinical devices are designed, tested and improved through lengthy and expensive laboratory experiments and clinical trials [1]. More recently, computational methods have allowed for rapid testing, speeding up the design process and enabling far more complete searches of design space. While computational models cannot fully capture the complexities of biological systems, they provide valuable insights into crucial underlying mechanisms, such as the effects of fluid-structure interactions (FSIs).

Introduction: Benchtop and animal models have traditionally been used to study the propagation of Onyx Liquid Embolic Systems (Onyx) used in the treatment of brain arteriovenous malformations (AVM). However, such models are costly, do not provide sufficient detail to elucidate how variations in Onyx viscosity alter flow dynamics, and rely on some trial-and-error, resulting in elongated timelines for product development.

Objectives: The goal of this study was to leverage Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to predict the behavior of different Onyx formulations.
