Formylmethionine (fMet) plays crucial roles across bacterial and eukaryotic systems, contributing to protein translation, degradation, complex formation, stress adaptation, disease progression, and immune response. However, detecting fMet-bearing (fMet-) peptides and proteins has remained challenging due to the lack of effective anti-pan-fMet antibodies. We developed a polyclonal pan-fMet-specific antibody using a single antigen peptide, fMet-Gly-Ser-Gly-Cys pentapeptide, and a mixed antigen peptide, fMet-Xaa-Cys (Xaa, any of the 20 amino acids) tripeptides, as the immunogen.

Peri-implantitis is a severe biofilm-associated infection affecting millions worldwide. This cross-sectional study aimed to identify taxonomic and functional biomarkers that reliably indicate peri-implantitis by utilizing paired data from full length 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing (full-16S) and metatranscriptomics (RNAseq) in 48 biofilm samples from 32 patients. Both full-16S and RNAseq analyses revealed significant differences between healthy and peri-implantitis samples, with a shift toward anaerobic Gram-negative bacteria in peri-implantitis.

The 20S proteasome (Pf20S) is a promising antimalarial target. Therapeutic development has previously relied on native purifications of Pf20S, which is challenging and has limited the scope of previous efforts. Here, we report an effective recombinant Pf20S platform to facilitate drug discovery.

Herein, a new large Stokes shift fluorescent probe DGCA based on dansyl group modified tripeptide molecule (Gly-Cys-Ala-NH) was successfully synthesized. DGCA acts as a promising probe for simultaneous detection of Ag and Cu based on different response modes, which displayed fluorescence enhancement by Ag and fluorescence quenching by Cu in 100% aqueous solution. In addition, DGCA exhibited high sensitivity recognition of Ag and Cu, with the limits of detections (LODs) being 7.

Nrf2-Keap1 is an important defense system against oxidative stress damage and enhances the body's antioxidant capacity. Targeting the Keap1-Nrf2 signaling pathway and activating Nrf2 has become an effective strategy for treating oxidative stress and related diseases. In this study, virtual digestion, ADMET prediction, and molecular docking were used to screen antioxidant peptide from silkworm pupa protein.
