The use of a novel, in silico method for making an intelligent polymer selection to physically stabilize small molecule organic (SMO) solid compounds formulated as amorphous molecular solid dispersions is reported. 12 compounds (75%, w/w) were individually co-solidified with polyvinyl pyrrolidone:vinyl acetate (PVPva) copolymer by melt-quenching. Co-solidified products were analyzed intact using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and the pair distribution function (PDF) transform of powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) data to assess miscibility. Molecular descriptor indices were calculated for all twelve compounds using their reported crystallographic structures. Logistic regression was used to assess correlation between molecular descriptors and amorphous molecular solid dispersion potential. The final model was challenged with three compounds. Of the 12 compounds, 6 were miscible with PVPva (i.e. successful formation) and 6 were phase separated (i.e. unsuccessful formation). 2 of the 6 unsuccessful compounds exhibited detectable phase-separation using the PDF method, where DSC indicated miscibility. Logistic regression identified 7 molecular descriptors correlated to solid dispersion potential (α=0.001). The atomic mass-weighted third-order R autocorrelation index (R3m) was the only significant descriptor to provide completely accurate predictions of dispersion potential. The three compounds used to challenge the R3m model were also successfully predicted.

Transport phenomena of microswimmers in fluid flows play a crucial role in various biological processes, including bioconvection and cell sorting. In this article, we investigate the dispersion behaviour of chiral microswimmers in a simple shear flow using the generalized Taylor dispersion theory, inspired by biased locomotion of bacterial rheotaxis swimmers. We thus focused on the influence of shear-induced torque effects due to particle chirality, employing an extended Jeffery equation for individual deterministic dynamics.

Entropy, characterized by increased disorder throughout biological systems, can be quantified by homeostatic dysregulation (HD). One potential measure of HD is the dispersion of points from a normal value, approximated at the individual level by Mahalanobis distance (D). We hypothesized that greater HD in electrocardiogram (ECG) would also reflect greater HD in the musculoskeletal system which, in turn, would be associated with age and manifest as an increased risk of fracture independently of age, bone mineral density (BMD), and history of fracture.

Secondary metabolites are important bioactive compounds for diet and medicine. This study optimizes the extraction of hydroethanolic herbal extracts using an EDGE (Energized Dispersive Guided Extraction) system, evaluates their antioxidant capacity, and analyzes correlations among antioxidant activity, total phenolic content, and individual compounds. A Doehlert matrix design was used to optimize extraction, having temperature and time as independent variables, and total phenolic content (mg GAE/g) as the response, quantified via the Folin-Ciocalteu method.

The increasing use of engineered nanoparticles (NPs) in consumer and biomedical products has raised concern over their potential accumulation, transformation, and toxicity in biological systems. Accurate analytical methods are essential to detect, characterize, and quantify NPs in complex biological matrices. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) has emerged as a leading technique due to its high sensitivity, elemental selectivity, and quantitative capabilities.

Background: Organic chemicals have been known to cause allergic diseases such as bronchial asthma and hypersensitivity pneumonitis; however, the possibility that they do not cause irreversible pulmonary fibrosis has not been considered. Polyacrylic acid (PAA), an organic chemical, has caused irreversible progressive pulmonary fibrosis in exposed workers, indicating its potential to induce pulmonary inflammation and fibrosis. Although intratracheal instillation studies are commonly used for evaluating lung pathology, traditional methods face challenges with chemical substances, particularly nanoparticles, which tend to aggregate in suspension and prevent uniform pulmonary distribution.
