Since the 1990, chemoradiation has become the standard treatment for locally advanced anal cancer. Recent progress in molecular biology and the growing number of elderly patients invite the clinicians to personalize the multimodal therapy strategy. However, data about anal cancer and elderly patients or targeted therapy are extremely sparse. Indeed, national or international guidelines don't mention these two subjects. The purpose of this article is to make the state of art of the management of anal cancer and its interferences with geriatrics and molecular targeted therapy.

Membrane receptor recognition is a specific biotargeting strategy for disease diagnosis and treatment, but it suffers from insufficient receptor expression levels. Hydrophobic interaction-based membrane anchoring strategy allows high anchoring density, but it lacks specificity. In this study, we present a DNA nanocage-based artificial receptor generator (DNARG) that combines the advantages of high specificity of receptor recognition and high density of hydrophobic membrane anchoring.

Radiation therapy (RT) plays important roles in cancer treatment, and the efficacy of RT depends on the abscopal effect, which results in the regression of distant and untreated tumors through localized irradiation of a single tumor lesion. This effect is mediated by effector tumor antigen-specific T cells (ETASTs) activated by RT. Monitoring the radiation-induced changes in ETASTs can be used to predict the abscopal effect.

Infrared (IR) spectroscopic imaging combines the molecular specificity of vibrational spectroscopy with imaging capabilities of microscopy, potentially allowing for simultaneous quantitative observations of drugs and cellular response. However, accurately quantifying drug concentration within changing cells is complicated by the overlap between exogenous molecules' and native cellular spectra. Here, we address this challenge by developing a derivative of the widely used chemotherapeutic doxorubicin as a spectral bioprobe (DOX-IR) using a strongly absorbing metal-carbonyl moiety [(Cp)Fe(CO)].
