Objective: To determine quercetin and kaempferol in the plant of genus Dysosma that come from different species, different plant parts or different growing areas, which provide the basis of rational utilization of Dysosma plants.
Method: The analysis was performed on a Diamonsil C18 column (4.6 mm x 150 mm, 5 microm) eluted with the mobile phase of methanol-water containing 0.1% phosphoric acid (60:40). The flow rate was 1 mL x min(-1), the detection wavelength was 360 nm; and the column temperature was set at 25 degrees C.
Result: The linear ranges of quercetin and kaempferol are 0.22-1.1 microg and 0.42-2.1 microg. The average recoveries of quercetin and kaempferol are 97.1% (RSD 1.4%) and 99.6% (RSD 2.4%); respectively.
Conclusion: The contents of flavones in different species of Dysosma are significantly different.

The current investigation was designed to explore the chemical composition, antioxidant capacity, enzyme inhibitory activity, and cytotoxic potential of four different extracts (Ethyl Acetate, Ethanol, Ethanol/Water (70%) and Water) derived from the aerial parts of . In vitro, assessments were performed utilizing diverse antioxidant assays, along with evaluations of neuroprotective enzyme inhibition targeting acetylcholine and butyl choline enzymes, as well as antidiabetic activities against α-amylase and α-glucosidase and a potential candidate for a tyrosinase inhibitor. LC-ESI-QTOF-MS identification provided a total of 70 compounds in the extracted samples of , including kaempferol 3-(deoxyhexosyl-hexoside)-7-hexoside, rutin, quercetin dideoxyhexoside, caffeic acid hexoside, quinoline alkaloids, morphine derivatives, and scoulerine.

The synergistic association of different polyphenols has gained much interest in the food industry to develop efficient antioxidant cocktails, reducing the concentration of active agents and subsequently potential toxicity. The worldwide occurrence of neurodegenerative diseases in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's patients is increasing owing to multiple disease mechanisms, including oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, and excitotoxicity. (clove) flavonoid metabolites show strong neuroprotective potential because they act as antioxidants, reduce inflammation and lipid peroxidation, and prevent apoptosis. The key flavonoid metabolites, quercetin, kaempferol, kumatakenin, myricetin, ombuin 3-O-β-d-glucopyranoside, and tamarixetin 3-O-β-d-glucopyranoside, bind to various brain receptors implicated in disease propagation pathways and induce changes that support neuronal survival and decrease cognitive impairment.
