Purpose: To explore the three-dimensional (3-D) morphological characteristics of the complicated inner ear development of the C57BL/6 mouse.
Methods: Specimens of C57BL/6 mouse embryos on days E7.5, E8.5, E9.5, E10.5, E11.5, E12.5 and E14.5 were collected and sectioned serially in this experiment. After hematoxylin and eosin staining, parts of the inner ear were pictured under the microscope with specific positional control. Using the protocol of 3D-DOCTOR software, we outlined the inner ear margin including the inner and extra face in different colors and put them into the 3-D program to reconstruct the 3-D model.
Results: 3-D models of the E9.5, E10.5, E11.5, E12.5 and E14.5 inner ear were obtained and proved to be fine. Different parts of the inner ear were shown clearly in different colors in the 3-D model and significant morphological changes of the inner ear were shown during development between E9.5 and E14.5.
Conclusion: The new technology of 3-D reconstruction is a useful and important tool to directly observe the complex development of the inner ear, and the development between E9.5 and E14.5 has been proved by the 3-D model to be the most complex and important period of the development of the C57BL/6 mouse inner ear.

Intratympanic (IT) delivery of dexamethasone (DEX) is widely used for treating inner ear disorders; however, its therapeutic efficacy is limited by poor permeability of the round window membrane (RWM). This study aimed to evaluate and compare the efficacy and safety of three pharmacological agents-histamine (HIS), 3% hypertonic saline (3% HS), and sodium caprate (SC)-as adjuvants for enhancing RWM permeability and improving IT-DEX delivery in a murine model. Following IT administration of each permeability enhancer followed by DEX injection, perilymph DEX concentrations were measured using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography, and DEX receptor expression in the organ of Corti was assessed by immunofluorescence.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), a non‑pharmacological treatment, has gained increasing attention for SSNHL management. HBOT exerts therapeutic effects by increasing inner ear oxygen partial pressure, improving the microcirculation and reducing inflammation, as its main mechanisms.

Cardiospondylocarpofacial syndrome (CSCFS) is an extremely rare autosomal dominant disorder resulting from variant in the gene, which encodes the transforming growth factor-β-activated kinase 1 (TAK1). Only 26 cases of CSCFS have been reported worldwide. The main manifestations are growth retardation, hypotonia, dysmorphic facial features, skeletal and limb abnormalities, cardiac septal defects with valve dysplasia, cardiomyopathy, and deafness with inner ear malformations.

BACKGROUND Duplicated internal auditory canal (dIAC) is a rare congenital temporal bone anomaly associated with ipsilateral sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). The Bonebridge bone conduction implant has a magnet, an internal transducer, and an external audio processor. This report is of a 14-year-old girl with unilateral SNHL and vestibulocochlear nerve (VIII cranial nerve) aplasia due to dIAC who was treated with a Bonebridge bone conduction implant.
