Repeat expansion has been implicated in 10 out of 17 candidate genes identified for autosomal dominant cerebellar ataxias (ADCAs)-commonly referred as spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Though genetically distinct, the SCAs share a large number of features that confound their clinical classification. In addition, there is a difference in the prevalence and phenotypic expression of ataxias between different ethnic groups. We have created a new SCA-locus-specific variation database (LSVD) that aims to catalog and integrate information on SCAs associated with trinucleotide repeat expansion (SCA1, SCA 2, SCA 3, SCA 6, SCA 7, SCA 8, SCA 12, SCA 17, Friedreich's ataxia [FRDA], and dentatorubral-pallidoluysian atrophy [DRPLA]) from all over the world. The database has been developed using the Leiden Open (source) Variation Database (LOVD) software (Leiden University Medical Center, Leiden, the Netherlands). The database houses detailed information on clinical features, such as age and symptom at onset, mode of inheritance, and genotype information, pertaining to the SCA patients from more than 400 families across India. All the compiled genotype data conforms to the HGVS Nomenclature guidelines. This would be a very useful starting point for understanding the molecular correlates of phenotypes in ataxia-a multilocus disease in which related molecular mechanisms converge to overlapping phenotypes.

Background And Objectives: Social determinants of health (SDOH) are key drivers of health inequities, shaping disparities in patient outcomes that must be addressed. This study examines the association between SDOH and suspected child abuse (SCA) in pediatric patients sustaining traumatic brain injury (TBI), leveraging newly proposed Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/PLACES measures to identify the most contributing measure to SCA.
Methods: A retrospective review of our institutional database (2016-2023) identified pediatric TBI cases (18 years and younger) using International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision codes based on a modified CDC framework.

Overconsumption of energy drinks containing high levels of caffeine has been increasingly linked to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. This case report describes a 24-year-old Caribbean-Black male with no prior comorbidities who experienced an aborted sudden cardiac death (SCD) after a recent energy drink binge a few hours prior to his ventricular fibrillation (VF) cardiac arrest. Primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) was successfully performed for a dreaded widowmaker lesion, thought to have arisen as a sequela of his excessive energy drink intake.

Background: Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in pediatric populations is a rare yet critical medical emergency characterized by high mortality and significant neurological impairment among survivors. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to synthesize existing evidence on pediatric resuscitation techniques, focusing on survival rates, neurological outcomes, and the effectiveness of chest compression-only resuscitation (HCPR) versus standard resuscitation (CCPR), thereby addressing current gaps in clinical understanding and informing future guidelines.
Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, we systematically searched the PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases for trials comparing HCPR versus CCPR during pediatric resuscitation.

This research work proposes a hybrid Manta ray Forging Optimization- Sine Cosine Algorithm (MRFO-SCA) for Congestion Management (CM) that addresses the power system transmission line congestion cost challenges with the integration of Wind Energy System (WES). The proposed method focuses on two key objectives: first, identifying the most influential bus within the power system using the Bus Sensitivity Factor (BSF) to optimally place a wind power source, thereby impacting the power flow in overloaded lines. Second, MRFO-SCA has been developed for optimal power rescheduling of the generators to alleviate congestion while minimizing the congestion cost.
