Fetal Leydig cells (FLCs) are crucial for androgen production during fetal development. Their differentiation from progenitor cells is regulated by various factors, including Desert Hedgehog (DHH), Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF), and the transcription factor Ad4BP/SF-1 (NR5A1). Our previous research revealed significant upregulation of energy metabolism genes during FLC differentiation; however, the underlying regulatory mechanisms remain unresolved.

The placenta, a vital organ bridging the fetus and mother, governs nutrient exchange. Syncytin-1, an endogenous retroviral envelope protein specifically expressed in placental trophoblasts, is diminished in preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction. This study aimed to investigate the effects of low syncytin-1 expression on placental transport of amino acids, fatty acids and cholesterol, and its implications for fetal and placental development, contributing to fetal growth restriction pathogenesis.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a significant metabolic disorder characterized by the elevated glucose level first detected during pregnancy, influencing approximately 14 % of pregnancies globally. Given the rising prevalence of environmental toxicants and their potential impact on maternal health, it is imperative to explore the relationship between environmental exposures and GDM. This study aimed to investigate the mediating role of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC) in this context, demonstrating that exposure to environmental toxicants may influence GDM risk through some pathways.

Perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS) is a legacy, long-chain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) frequently detected in human serum and environmental media across the globe. Previously published developmental studies in rats indicated a general lack of effects in common endpoints like maternal and offspring body and liver weights at doses up to 50 mg/kg/d. To facilitate mixture-based studies of PFAS co-exposure, individual dose response parameters are necessary for model predictions.
