The fluorescent 2-aminopurine probe (2-AP) incorporated into the loop of 23-mer RNA hairpin of HIV-1 genome dimerization initiation site (DIS) was used for discrimination of specific and unspecific binding of paromomycin and spermine to the kissing loop dimer (KD) formed in solution. While both ligands stabilized the KD RNA structure, only paromomycin binding resulted in significant increase of 2-AP fluorescence. These observations suggest that the 2-AP fluorescent RNA construct might be useful for selecting ligands specifically binding the HIV-1 kissing loop RNA dimer.

Functional recovery after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) varies widely among individuals, and traditional assessments often fail to detect subtle changes in real-world walking ability. Wearable sensors offer continuous and objective tracking of gait outside of clinical settings. In this prospective, longitudinal study, thirty-one patients undergoing unilateral TKA wore thigh-mounted accelerometers continuously from 2 weeks before surgery through 90 days postoperatively.

Bringing in diverse people to a scientific workplace can result in many different benefits including improved innovation and impact. This study investigates the current ethnic diversity in forensic science in the UK using an online questionnaire. The preliminary data collected were compared to census figures for scientific occupations, and it was found that minoritised individuals are under-represented.

The CRISPR/Cas12a technology has revolutionized molecular diagnostics. However, existing Cas12a systems depend on continuous target DNA activation, which limits them to single-target detection. In this study, we developed a novel topology-guided Cas12a system, the double-target responsive (DTR) system, capable of being activated by noncontiguous dual RNA/DNA targets.

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are neurodevelopmental pathologies. Investigating both sexes is crucial for understanding sex-specific manifestations of ASD. This study aims to examine ASD-like behaviours and metabolic alterations in male and female rats prenatally exposed to valproic acid (VPA).

This paper examines the impact of childhood obesity on Spanish high school students' academic achievement and human capital accumulation. To address potential endogeneity concerns, we exploit exogenous variation in obesity within peer groups, using data from friendship networks. Specifically, we instrument individual obesity with the average body mass index of intransitive friendship triads.
