Article Abstract

A rare, and synthetically versatile, nonaqueous plutonium complex, Pu[N(SiMe3)2]3 (1), has been structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction for the first time and reveals significantly shorter agostic interactions compared to the cerium(III) analogue, indicating possible covalency differences.

Background: Aortic structural degeneration occurs with aging; however, 3-dimensional geometric remodeling has not been well characterized in large populations.

Methods: We segmented the thoracic aorta from magnetic resonance images of 56 164 UKB (UK Biobank) participants and computed tomography images of 9417 PMBB (Penn Medicine Biobank) participants. We quantified structural measurements of elongation, dilation, tortuosity, and curvature across the thoracic aorta.

The solid-solution alloys of Mn-Zn-Ga and Mn-Zn-Sn have been synthesized by a high-temperature method and structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction studies. The substitutional solid-solution alloys that crystallize in the chiral space group 432 or 432 adopt the A13-type structure (β-Mn). Similar to β-Mn, the 20 atoms in the cubic unit cell are distributed over 8 and 12 Wyckoff positions.

Chemical gardens refer to a class of self-assembling structures of semi-permeable precipitates. They have been attracting significant interest due to their relevance to sub-oceanic hydrothermal vents and the origin of life. We have investigated the growth behaviour of chemical garden walls in a horizontal Hele-Shaw cell.
