The aims of this study were to determine (1) which species of Culicoides is most commonly attracted to horses, (2) whether horses suffering insect hypersensitivity attract more Culicoides spp. than unaffected horses, and (3) the times when Culicoides spp. are most active. Horses affected by insect hypersensitivity and unaffected horses were placed inside mosquito netting tents for 30 min at different times of the day. All Culicoides spp. trapped inside the tents were collected and identified. C. obsoletus was the most common species found, followed by C. pulicaris. Healthy horses attracted slightly more midges than horses that were affected with insect hypersensitivity. All of the Culicoides species were most active at sunset, less so at sunrise and very few or no midges were trapped in the afternoon or at night.

This case report describes two researchers who developed rhinoconjunctivitis to the allergens of cockroaches after conducting animal experiments with cockroaches. Proper protective equipment was not used, and ventilation was poor. Since current legislation on laboratory animals does not apply to insects, there is a risk of more cases arising among researchers and other professionals who are occupationally exposed to insects.

Background: Hymenoptera venom allergy is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality, also in pediatric patients, highlighting the importance of effective management through venom immunotherapy (VIT). This study aimed to evaluate the safety profile of VIT, identify factors associated with adverse reactions (ARs), assess the accuracy of insect identification and its impact on VIT extract selection, and determine treatment efficacy by analyzing ARs following re-sting.
Methods: The medical charts of patients followed up at the Allergy Unit of Meyer Children's Hospital IRCCS, Florence, Italy, who completed a VIT cycle between 1997 and 2021 were retrospectively analyzed.

Idiopathic anaphylaxis (IA) refers to recurrent, life-threatening hypersensitivity reactions without identifiable triggers, representing a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. We describe a 17-year-old girl presenting with recurrent episodes of flushing, pruritus, and respiratory symptoms, without consistent allergen exposure or cofactor involvement. Evaluation revealed elevated acute tryptase levels with a normal baseline, negative skin testing, and negative alpha-gal and KIT mutation analysis.

Background: Skin allergies are among the most frequent types of allergies, where continuous investigation of the pathological immune mechanisms is required for a better understanding and a more effective treatment of the disease. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of interleukin (IL)-5 vaccination on allergen-specific IgE antibodies as well as T cell cytokine modulation in skin allergy using a mouse model and a naturally occurring disease in horses.
Methods: Ovalbumin (OVA)-sensitized mice, as well as horses affected by equine insect bite hypersensitivity (IBH) were administered an anti-IL-5 vaccination, and allergen-specific IgE and IgG were quantified in the blood.
