Article Abstract

The molecular structures of two byproducts 1,1''-diphenyl-3',4'-dihydrodispiro[indole-2,2'-furan-5',2''-indole]-3,3''(1H, 1''H)-dione (3) and 1,5'-diphenyl-4',5'-dihydro-3'H-spiro[indole-2,2'-pyrano[3,2-b]indol]-3(1H)-one (4), which accompanied the rearrangement of 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-1-phenylquinoline-2,4(1H,3H)-dione (1) to 2-hydroxy-2-methyl-1-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-3H-indol-3-one (2), have been elucidated by NMR, MS, and X-ray diffraction.

Macroautophagy/autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved process through which cells degrade cytoplasmic substances via autophagosomes. During the initiation of autophagosome formation, the ULK/Atg1 complex serves as a scaffold that recruits and regulates downstream ATG/Atg proteins and ATG9/Atg9-containing vesicles. Despite the essential role of the ULK/Atg1 complex, its components have changed during evolution; the ULK complex in mammals consists of ULK1 (or ULK2), RB1CC1, ATG13, and ATG101, whereas the Atg1 complex in the yeast lacks Atg101 but instead has Atg29 and Atg31 along with Atg17.

Optimization of Nitrogen Application and Root Biomass Modulates 2-Acetyl-1-Pyrroline Biosynthesis in Fragrant Rice.

Physiol Plant

September 2025

State Key Laboratory for Conservation and Utilization of Subtropical Agro-Bioresources, College of Agriculture, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou, China.

The rice root system mediates nutrient uptake while adapting to tillage, management, and environmental changes. While optimized nitrogen (N) supply is known to enhance 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2-AP) biosynthesis in fragrant rice, the underlying mechanisms linking nitrogen availability, root development, and their combined effects on physiological processes and aroma formation remain unclear. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted a pot experiment employing two fragrant rice cultivars (Huahangxiangyinzhen and Qingxiangyou19xiang) under three nitrogen regimes (0, 1.

The discovery of solute precursors of crystalline materials, such as biominerals, recently challenged the classical nucleation theory (CNT). One emerging method for investigating these early-stage intermediates in solution is dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization (dDNP)-enhanced nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Recent applications of dDNP to calcium carbonate (CaC) and calcium phosphate (CaP) mineralization have demonstrated the feasibility of identifying and tracing very early-stage prenucleation clusters (PNCs).

From BN-Dewar benzene to BN-benzvalene: a computational exploration of photoisomerization mechanisms.

Org Biomol Chem

September 2025

Universidad de Córdoba, Grupo de Química Computacional, Facultad de Ciencias Básicas, Carrera 6, No. 77-305, Montería-Córdoba, Colombia.

This study explores the photochemical conversion of BN-Dewar benzene into BN-benzvalene derivatives, offering a strategic route to heteroatom-containing valence isomers with distinctive electronic properties. Using time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) and electron localization function (ELF) analyses, the excited-state mechanism and associated structural rearrangements were elucidated. Vertical excitation to the S state was found to weaken the CC and B-N bonds while strengthening the N-Si bond in silyl-substituted derivatives, a key factor enabling efficient BN-benzvalene formation.

The solid-solution alloys of Mn-Zn-Ga and Mn-Zn-Sn have been synthesized by a high-temperature method and structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction studies. The substitutional solid-solution alloys that crystallize in the chiral space group 432 or 432 adopt the A13-type structure (β-Mn). Similar to β-Mn, the 20 atoms in the cubic unit cell are distributed over 8 and 12 Wyckoff positions.
