Caprine arthritis encephalitis virus (CAEV) is the natural lentivirus of goats, well known for its tropism for macrophages and its inability to cause infection in lymphocytes. The viral genome lacks nef, tat, vpu and vpx coding sequences. To test the hypothesis that when nef is expressed by the viral genome, the virus became toxic for lymphocytes during replication in macrophages, we inserted the SIVsmm PBj14 nef coding sequences into the genome of CAEV thereby generating CAEV-nef. This recombinant virus is not infectious for lymphocytes but is fully replication competent in goat macrophages in which it constitutively expresses the SIV Nef. We found that goat lymphocytes cocultured with CAEV-nef-infected macrophages became activated, showing increased expression of the interleukin-2 receptor (IL-2R). Activation correlated with increased proliferation of the cells. Interestingly, a dual effect in terms of apoptosis regulation was observed in exposed goat lymphocytes. Nef was found first to induce a protection of lymphocytes from apoptosis during the first few days following exposure to infected macrophages, but later it induced increased apoptosis in the activated lymphocytes. This new recombinant virus provides a model to study the functions of Nef in the context of infection of macrophages, but in absence of infection of T lymphocytes and brings new insights into the biological effects of Nef on lymphocytes.

The current study evaluated the protective and antioxidant effects of goat milk, alone and in combination with sulfasalazine (SAZ), against acetic acid (AA)-induced ulcerative colitis (UC) in Sprague Dawley rats. Thirty rats were divided into five groups with six rats in each group. UC was induced using 3% AA, administered intrarectally (IR) at a dose of 3 mL per rat once daily for the first three consecutive days of the experiment.

Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) has recently become one of the most incidence and threatening viral diseases of sheep in Iraq, which affected notion economy through prevalence and mortality rates. Although there is wide availability of global data on epidemiology, diagnosis, pathogenesis, and treatment of this disease, crucial specific available information with extended prevalence in Iraq still requires specific research to cope. Therefore, this study investigates molecular phylogeny of PPR in sheep during outbreak and detection the histological and immunohistochemical changes in the lung and intestine tissue.

Earlier studies found that milk lactoferrin (LF) concentration was significantly associated with somatic cell count (SCC) dynamics and lactation stage was related to milk production and mammary gland health, which helps determine the physiopathological conditions and goats' postpartum activity. The presented study aimed to design an integrated monitoring system among LF and SCC dynamics and hematological indices over the postpartum timeline in Baladi and Shami goats. After collecting the data, the Shami and Baladi groups were compared using independent t-tests, and Pearson's correlation analysis was performed between variables.
