Following article describes available information presenting current knowledge on prolactin receptors expression and prolactin actions in the prostate gland. Prostate is strongly androgen dependent gland, however poseses receptors for other ligands including hypophyseal hormones and growth factors. More over prolactin is also locally produced and secreted acting also in paracrine way on the prostate. Prolactin alone and in cooperation with these hormones and growth factors plays essential role in regulation morphology and function of prostate gland, takes part in embryonic development, secretory function and pathological stages in prostate. Studies carried out in the human and animals in vivo and in vitro revealed presence of prolactin receptors in normal, benign and malignant prostate tissues.

Diabetes mellitus is a common and serious metabolic disease globally, characterized by increased blood glucose levels. The major pathogenesis is the functional impairment of insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas and the lack of insulin secretion. Although both type 1 and type 2 diabetes develop through distinct pathological mechanisms, they lead to the destruction and/or dysfunction of beta cells, resulting in inadequate beta cell mass to maintain normal blood glucose levels.

Pseudoplacentational endometrial hyperplasia (PEH) is a common uterine lesion in dogs. A high frequency of pyometra has been associated with PEH in dogs, suggesting that PEH might be related to the pathogenesis of pyometra. This study aimed to assess transcription levels and expression of Toll like receptors (TLR) 1, 2 and 4; alpha estrogen receptors (ESR1), progesterone receptors (PR) and prolactin receptors (PRLR) in uteri with PEH.

Erythropoietin (Epo) and its non-erythropoietic splice variant EV-3 have demonstrated potent neuroprotective effects across species, although the respective mechanisms are variable and incompletely understood. Unlike vertebrates, insects lack both Epo and the classical Epo receptor but express Cytokine Receptor-Like Factor 3 (CRLF3), a conserved type I receptor that serves as a neuroprotective receptor for Epo and EV-3 in insects and human iPSC-derived neuron-like cells. Insects, which express CRLF3 but lack all other group 1 type I cytokine receptors, represent a suitable model to study the function of CRLF3 in neuroprotection.

A large wave of myelination in the central nervous system (CNS) of mammals occurs during postnatal development, coinciding with the lactation period. High prolactin (PRL) levels are present in maternal milk; however, the role of milk PRL in lactating offspring remains under-investigated. Bexicaserin (LP352) is a selective superagonist of the 5-hydroxytryptamine 2C (5-HT) receptor currently in development for the treatment of seizures that arise from developmental and epileptic encephalopathies. This phase 1, double-blind, placebo-controlled multiple ascending dose (MAD) study assessed the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetic profile of bexicaserin in healthy participants. Doses ranging from 3 to 24 mg three times daily (TID) were administered for up to 14 days.
