The medaka fish albino mutant, i(1) is one of the Tomita collection of medaka pigmentation mutants which exhibits a complete albino phenotype, because of inactivation of the tyrosinase gene due to insertion of a transposable element, Tol-1. Recently, mosaic black-pigmented i(1) medaka fish have arisen in one of our laboratory breeding populations. Their pigmented cells have been observed in all of the tissues, including the eye and skin, in which melanin is detectable in the wild type. In this study, we analyzed the tyrosinase gene of revertants and showed Tol-1 to have been precisely excised from the gene, suggesting a causal relationship. Mosaic patterns of pigmentation indicate spontaneous somatic excision of the element from the tyrosinase gene. To our knowledge, this is the first transposable element with somatic excision activity demonstrated phenotypically in vertebrates. The pattern of pigmentation in mosaic revertants indicates frequencies of melanin pigments to be consistent with the numbers of melanophores per unit area of body sites, such as the eyes, head and dorsal trunk.

Background: Fairmaire is a medicinal insect that has been used for a long time by minority ethnic groups in Yunnan, China, due to its immunomodulatory function. However, its potential applications in cosmetics have not been reported.
Methods: experiments were used to verify whether the extracts of Fairmaire (EBR) have the effect of inhibiting TYR activity and eliminating melanin deposition.

The current investigation was designed to explore the chemical composition, antioxidant capacity, enzyme inhibitory activity, and cytotoxic potential of four different extracts (Ethyl Acetate, Ethanol, Ethanol/Water (70%) and Water) derived from the aerial parts of . In vitro, assessments were performed utilizing diverse antioxidant assays, along with evaluations of neuroprotective enzyme inhibition targeting acetylcholine and butyl choline enzymes, as well as antidiabetic activities against α-amylase and α-glucosidase and a potential candidate for a tyrosinase inhibitor. LC-ESI-QTOF-MS identification provided a total of 70 compounds in the extracted samples of , including kaempferol 3-(deoxyhexosyl-hexoside)-7-hexoside, rutin, quercetin dideoxyhexoside, caffeic acid hexoside, quinoline alkaloids, morphine derivatives, and scoulerine.

Through a comprehensive analysis combining network pharmacology prediction and transcriptomics, this study systematically explained the multi-target mechanism of Cyanotis arachnoidea(CA) Gel in improving melasma. A melasma model was induced in female SD rats by progesterone injection combined with ultraviolet B(UVB) irradiation for 40 consecutive days, while the blank control group was only fed routinely. After successful model establishment, the rats were randomly divided into five groups and administered different doses of CA ethanol extract gel(high, medium, and low doses) or arbutin Gel(positive control), which were applied once daily for 28 consecutive days.

Molluscan shell color polymorphism is influenced by a variety of factors, and endocrine pigments secreted by mollusks play a crucial role in determining shell coloration. The hard clam (Meretrix meretrix) exhibits one of the most extensive variations in shell color among molluscan species, and the mechanism underlying its shell pigmentation remains largely unexplored. The stable inheritance of red shell color in a newly identified variant of M.

Purpose: Retinal Pigment Epithelial (RPE) cells perform critical functions in the visual cycle. Their melanin pigmentation, which is organized into specialized compartments - melanosomes, is highly critical for proper vision. A chemical method to induce pigmentation in a non-pigmented model of ARPE-19 cells was applied using L-DOPA as a repurposed drug from the current treatment of Parkinson's disease.
