Metal-on-metal is one potential bearing option for total hip arthroplasty (THA). Proponents of the bearing have suggested that if the tribology is optimal, volumetric wear may occur at levels at least one order of magnitude lower than metal-on-polyethylene bearings. We present a unique postmortem case of a well fixed, metal-on-metal, McKee-Farrar total hip arthroplasty implanted 30 years previously that was clinically asymptomatic in life. Clinical and radiological examination is supplemented by tribological examination of the bearing and histopathological examination of the cement-bone interface.

Purpose: Robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (RA-TKA), which is increasingly used to improve surgical precision, can face adoption difficulties due to a learning curve marked by longer operating times. The aim of this study was to evaluate the learning curve associated with the VELYS™ robot in five surgeons from the same centre with different annual arthroplasty volumes using navigated assistance with personalised alignment. Background: Acetabular reconstruction is often challenging in revision hip arthroplasty, especially in the face of moderate to severe acetabular bone deficiency. In some severe bone defects, double-metal tantalum cups can improve the contact area between bone and implants, increase the surface area for bone ingrowth, and better restore the anatomical position of the acetabulum. Furthermore, with a good press-fit, the auxiliary screw has a minimal effect on acetabular cup stability.
