We analyzed gene expression profiles of normal mouse fibroblast BALB/c 3T3 cells and its SV40 transformant SV-T2 cells using our originally developed cell surface marker DNA microarray, which is prepared on a diamond-like carbon-coated glass. As a result, CD62L and IL-6 receptor alpha gene expressions were upregulated in SV-T2 and were thought to be candidates for call surface markers of the cells. The result of microarray analysis was validated by real-time quantitative PCR immunohistochemistry and biological assays. These data show that our cell surface marker DNA microarray should be useful in finding the candidates of cell type-specific surface markers.

Transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) enables non-invasive modulation of brain activity, holding promise for cognitive research and clinical applications. However, it remains unclear how the spiking activity of cortical neurons is modulated by specific electric field (E-field) distributions. Here, we use a multi-scale computational framework that integrates an anatomically accurate head model with morphologically realistic neuron models to simulate the responses of layer 5 pyramidal cells (L5 PCs) to the E-fields generated by conventional M1-SO tACS.

Slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (or "SLIPS") can prevent bacterial surface fouling, but they do not inherently possess the means to kill bacteria or reduce cell loads in surrounding media. Past reports show that the infused liquids in these materials can be leveraged to load and release antimicrobial agents, but these approaches are generally limited to the use of hydrophobic agents that are soluble in the infused oily phases. Here, we report the design of so-called "proto-SLIPS" that address this limitation and permit the release of highly water-soluble (or oil-insoluble) agents.
