Article Abstract

From 1998 to 2001, a sample of 2760 Mongol and Han individuals was investigated in 3 areas (Eerduosi city, Xilinguole and Bayannaoer leagues) from Inner Mongolia. Each individual was studied on 4 genetic characters (thumb type, palmar digital formular, fingernail type and plantar digital formular). The result is as follows: (1) The frequencies of the straight thumb were over 60%, and there were no significant sexual differences in all of 6 groups. (2) The frequencies of the ring-finger-longer were much higher in 6 groups, and there were significant sexual differences in 4 groups. (3) The frequencies of the long-shaped fingernail were the highest in all groups, the squat-shaped were the lowest. (4) The big toes were longer than the second toes in most people of 6 groups, but without significant sexual differences in each groups. (5) There were no significant correlations between 4 characters.

Natal dispersal is a key process in ecology and evolution. Similarities of dispersal patterns between relatives can lead to small-scale kin structure within populations with consequences for population dynamics and genetics. Most studies have focused on birds, lizards, and small mammals.

Engaging in the gay community provides support and affirmation, but it is often overlooked that some sexual minority men may experience stress from status-based competition within the mainstream gay community. These pressures are more prevalent among sexual minority men with lower social and sexual status, who are frequently devalued and excluded by other members of the community. Such experiences can be more psychologically impactful than rejection by mainstream society.

Materno-fetal and Obstetrics Research Unit, Department Woman-Mother-Child, University Hospital of Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland; Faculty of Biology and Medicine, University of Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland. Electronic address:

Research Question: What is the composition of bacterial communities at various genital sites and are there potential interactions between partners' microbiota?

Design: This observational study involved metagenomic analyses of samples collected from male and female partners of couples undergoing fertility treatment. Samples included vaginal and penile swabs, as well as follicular fluid and semen, which were analysed using next-generation sequencing.

Results: The bacterial community profiles of different genital tract niches were distinct, niche-specific compositions, with female samples predominantly featuring Lactobacillus species and male samples displaying greater microbial diversity, including genital-specific and skin-associated taxa.

Aquatic pollution caused by pesticides raises concerns about the effects on wildlife. While risk assessment protocols with invertebrates focus mainly on arthropods, the effects on gastropods are underexplored. In this way, the impact of exposure to imidacloprid, a neonicotinoid insecticide, and tebuconazole, an azole fungicide, on different life stages of the freshwater snail Physa acuta was investigated.
