Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), highlighting their serious complications and the need for a multidisciplinary treatment approach that covers their causes and various treatment options available.
  • - An extensive literature review (2000-2023) examines treatments like wound dressings, photobiomodulation therapy, off-loading devices, and stem cell therapy, all aimed at enhancing healing in DFUs.
  • - Given the complexity of DFU pathophysiology, successful treatment relies on a combination of methods, including maintaining a moist environment, reducing ulcer pressure, and utilizing advanced therapies to boost tissue regeneration.

Article Synopsis
  • - Methamphetamine (METH) disrupts neurotransmitter activity in the central nervous system, leading to neurotoxicity through various pathways, including increased reactive nitrogen and oxygen species and mitochondrial apoptosis.
  • - This study analyzed structural changes in the amygdala of ten male postmortem brains, comparing chronic METH users to control subjects using various scientific techniques like immunohistochemistry and real-time PCR.
  • - Results showed METH addiction led to decreased levels of protective proteins and increased inflammation and neurodegeneration in the amygdala, with reactive oxygen species production linked to specific signaling pathways.

Background: Oregano (Origanum vulgare L.), one of the important medicinal plants in the world, has valuable pharmacological compounds with antimicrobial, antiviral, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, antiurolithic, antiproliferative and neuroprotective activities. Phenolic monoterpenes such as thymol and carvacrol with many medical importance are found in Oregano essential oil.

This research investigated the histopathological changes in the tissue of the lung, heart and liver, hepatocyte cell death, autophagy, and the apoptosis inductions in the postmortem cases. Since December 2019, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has become a significant global health concern. In order to clarify the changes in tissues of the lung, heart and liver by COVID-19, samples were taken from five patients who died of COVID-19 and five control cases, and the pathological changes in the lung, liver, and heart tissue were studied by X-ray, computed tomography, histological studies, and stereological analysis.

In this study, the role of known Parkinson's disease (PD) genes was examined in families with autosomal recessive (AR) parkinsonism to assist with the differential diagnosis of PD. Some families without mutations in known genes were also subject to whole genome sequencing with the objective to identify novel parkinsonism-related genes. Families were selected from 4000 clinical files of patients with PD or parkinsonism.

This study intended to examine the combined influences of photobiomodulation (PBM) and metformin on the microbial flora and biomechanical parameters of wounds in a non-genetic model of type II diabetes mellitus (TII DM). We induced a non-genetic model of TII DM in 20 rats by feeding them a 10% fructose solution for 2weeks followed by an injection of streptozotocin (STZ, 40mg/kg). After 21days from the injection of STZ, we induced one full-thickness skin wound in each of the diabetic rats.
