Aside high radiation cross-section, high mechanical strength is an essential quality for durable and effective glass shields. Many emerging glass shields are brittle with low strength parameters; consequently, limiting their longstanding applications. In this study, the use of AlON (aluminium oxynitride) to increase the hardness of a Zr-based glass system and the consequent effects on the glass density and gamma shielding capacity were investigated.

Background: Bone scans using technetium-99m methylene diphosphonate (99mTc-MDP) are widely used in nuclear medicine for diagnosing various bone disorders. However, the radiation exposure associated with these procedures necessitates careful consideration and optimization.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate radiation doses in terms of Effective Dose (ED) and establish Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRLs) for 99mTc-MDP bone scans in Saudi Arabia.

: Computed Tomography (CT) is crucial in medical diagnosis, particularly for head examinations. Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRLs) are pivotal in balancing diagnostic efficacy with radiation safety. International organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) provide guidelines for establishing DRLs, emphasizing their importance in optimizing radiation doses.

This work describes the development of a novel fluorescence sensor based on magnesium/S@g-CN nanosheets for selective detection of copper (Cu) ions in water. Mg/S@g-CN nanosheets were prepared by the polycondensation technique and investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), surface area (BET), and UV-Vis optical absorption measurements. XRD and ATR-FTIR analysis showed the characteristic peaks for S@g-CN.
