This study aims to understand the mental health of South Koreans one year after the Seoul Halloween crowd disaster(hereafter referred to as the Seoul Halloween disaster), an anthropogenic disaster that occurred in 2022. In total, 651 participants completed three online surveys to measure anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) over a year after the disaster. The collected data were then analyzed with descriptive statistics, repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA), and independent samples t-tests using the SPSS 28 program.

Oral drug delivery remains a clinically preferred route for colorectal cancer therapy due to its noninvasive nature and patient compliance. However, conventional formulations suffer from premature degradation in the gastric environment and poor site-specific targeting in the intestine, significantly reducing therapeutic efficacy. Here, we introduce an intestinal therapeutic agent delivery microrobot (ITAM) composed of a therapeutic agent (TA) encapsulated core, a magnetic nanoparticle (MNP) layer for precise magnetic guidance, and a protective layer to minimize the loss of functional materials.

Osteosarcoma treatment can lead to considerable loss of bone tissue, creating a challenging microenvironment for recovery. Here, a novel biomaterial is described for tumor treatment via photothermal therapy and bone-tissue regeneration. Multifunctional composite hydrogels can be fabricated by incorporating mineralized magnetic fibers (G-mMFs) into a gelatin-genipin hydrogel.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) modulate bile metabolism and are important therapeutic options in cholestatic diseases. This study was aimed at understanding the effects of single and multiple doses of seladelpar, a PPAR (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta) agonist, on plasma C4 (a freely diffusible metabolite accepted as a proxy for de novo bile acid biosynthesis), Fibroblast Growth Factor 21 (Fgf21), and gene expression changes in the liver of male and female mice. C57BL/6 mice were treated with seladelpar 10 mg/kg/day or vehicle through oral gavage before lights out on Day 1 (single dose) or from Day 1 to Day 7 (multiple doses).

Purpose: Accumulating evidence has clarified that gut dysbiosis is involved in lung cancer development and progression. Although the relationship between tumors and gut microbiota has been extensively studied using clinical samples, no studies have examined the association between mutant EGFR-induced lung carcinogenesis and dysbiosis in gut microbiota. Therefore, we investigated the gut microbiota profiles in stool samples from human lung-specific conditional EGFR-mutant transgenic mice during lung tumor carcinogenesis.

Rationale: Although a relationship between the growth arrest-specific 6 (GAS6)/anexelekto (AXL) pathway and pulmonary fibrosis has been suggested, the precise mechanisms and clinical implications of the AXL pathway in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis are still unclear.

Methods: Constitutive and conditional AXL-knockout mice were generated and injected with bleomycin to induce pulmonary fibrosis. The expression of AXL and macrophage subtypes in bleomycin-injected mice and patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis was analysed using flow cytometry.

Objective: Individuals who have experienced traumatic events often encounter a variety of changes in their lives and and may suffer from them. To help and alleviate these traumatic stress, we developed an evidence-based mobile application (app) for easy accessibility. This study aimed to test the effects of the mobile app for traumatic stress management using neurofeedback-based meditation and binaural beat music.

The October 29, 2022, Seoul Halloween Crowd Crush (SHCC) caused the loss of 159 lives, making it the deadliest global mass-gathering disaster between 2018 and 2022. Despite the fact that years have passed since the incident, there remains a significant gap in research addressing the mental health of citizens to evaluate their recovery progress. Therefore, in this study, a survey was conducted to assess citizens' anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and well-being after the SHCC.

Objective: As societies become more complex, disasters are increasing in frequency and magnitude. To respond to the psychological problems that may arise in such situations, it is necessary to develop the psychological first aid (PFA) training program that is more engaging for disaster relief workers and less limited in time and space. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a web-based PFA simulation game for disaster relief workers to provide to fire disaster victims.

Background: Virtual simulation-based education for healthcare professionals has emerged as a strategy for dealing with infectious disease disasters, particularly when training at clinical sites is restricted due to the risk of infection and a lack of personal protective equipment. This research evaluated a virtual simulation-based education program intended to increase nurses' perceived competence in providing psychological support to patients affected by infectious disease disasters.

Methods: The efficacy of the program was evaluated via a randomized controlled trial.

Article Synopsis
  • Seladelpar, a medication aimed at treating primary biliary cholangitis, was tested in a phase 3 trial involving patients who didn't respond well to the standard treatment, ursodeoxycholic acid.
  • The trial showed that a significantly higher percentage of patients taking seladelpar achieved a biochemical response and normalized alkaline phosphatase levels compared to those on placebo.
  • Additionally, seladelpar was more effective in reducing itchiness, with patients reporting greater relief from pruritus than those receiving placebo, although some adverse events were noted.

  • * Three groups of nursing students underwent the same simulation but received different types of debriefing: the experimental group used the SENSE model, the conventional group used the GAS model, and the control group received minimal feedback.
  • * Results showed that the SENSE model significantly improved the mean score for counseling self-efficacy after the simulation, indicating that supportive debriefing enhances learners' confidence and skills.

Article Synopsis
  • Pruritus, a severe itching condition, significantly affects patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), and seladelpar treatment shows promise in alleviating this symptom while also reducing bile acid levels.
  • In a study, serum IL-31 levels were measured in patients taking seladelpar or a placebo, revealing a strong correlation between IL-31 levels and the severity of pruritus as well as bile acid levels.
  • Results indicated that seladelpar caused significant reductions in both IL-31 and bile acids, supporting the idea that these reductions may explain the medication's effectiveness in relieving itching in PBC patients.

Background: Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) has an exceptionally poor prognosis; as most of the cases are initially diagnosed as extensive disease with hematogenous metastasis. Therefore, the early diagnosis of SCLC is very important and may improve its prognosis.

Methods: To investigate the feasibility of early diagnosis of SCLC, we examined exosomal microRNAs (miRNAs) present in serum obtained from patients with SCLC.

AXL is a member of TAM receptor family and has been highlighted as a potential target for cancer treatment. Accumulating evidence has uncovered the critical role of the AXL signaling pathway in tumor growth, metastasis, and resistance against anti-cancer drugs, as well as its association with cancer immune escape. However, the function of AXL as a manipulator of the immune system in the tumor microenvironment (TME) remains unclear.
