Background: Cisplatin-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) improves survival in muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) as long as disease progression does not occur during treatment. However, predictors of NAC sensitivity remain elusive in clinical practice. This study evaluated the efficacy of NAC followed by radical cystectomy (NAC-RC) in cStage II-IIIA MIBC and identified the risk factors associated with residual extravesical disease.

Purpose: Detecting small pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDAC) is challenging owing to their difficulty in being identified as distinct tumor masses. This study assesses the diagnostic performance of a three-dimensional convolutional neural network for the automatic detection of small PDAC using both automatic tumor mass detection and indirect indicator evaluation.

Materials And Methods: High-resolution contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) scans from 181 patients diagnosed with PDAC (diameter ≤ 2 cm) between January 2018 and December 2023 were analyzed.

Background: There is no definitive consensus on the necessity and impact of lymph-node dissection during radical cystectomy for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic significance of lymph-node dissection in NMIBC and identify preoperative factors influencing non-urinary tract recurrence-free survival (NUTRFS).

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data for 2674 cases of bladder cancer treated with radical cystectomy between January 2013 and December 2019 from a multicenter Japanese database; 410 patients were preoperatively diagnosed with NMIBC.

With the increasing use of robot-assisted surgery, partial nephrectomy is recommended for small renal tumors(T1a)with a tumor size of 4 cm or less and is now considered a standard treatment. However, with the rise in incidental detection of small renal tumors during routine screenings, especially in elderly patients or those with comorbidities who may hesitate to undergo general anesthesia, there is a growing need for alternative treatments such as focal therapy to partial nephrectomy. The main methods of focal therapy include ablation techniques such as cryotherapy and radiofrequency ablation.

Article Synopsis
  • Right liver tumors near the adrenal gland or inferior vena cava can complicate laparoscopic liver surgery, making it difficult to access the liver.
  • To address this, researchers combined laparoscopic liver resection with a technique called retroperitoneoscopy, allowing better access to the liver's dorsal side without moving the right liver.
  • The new method, termed "retlap liver resection," was successfully performed on six patients from 2020 to 2022 without any complications, and the study provides a video demonstration of the procedure.

Article Synopsis
  • This study looked at women with bladder cancer who had surgery to remove their bladder and other reproductive organs to see how many still had problems with their reproductive organs.
  • Out of 417 women, some had their uterus and vaginal wall saved, but about 9% showed signs of cancer in their reproductive areas.
  • The researchers concluded that doctors need to think carefully about whether to save these organs during surgery because there's a risk that cancer could still affect them.
