Solitary papillary lesions of the oral cavity may present diagnostic challenges, particularly when arising in uncommon locations, such as the dorsal surface of the tongue, and in the absence of other mucocutaneous involvement. We report the case of a 55-year-old male patient with a small, asymptomatic, sessile lesion on the dorsum of the tongue, measuring approximately 2 mm in height. The lesion appeared white, standing in sharp contrast to the surrounding erythematous mucosa, drawing attention despite its diminutive size.

Method: A survey comprising of 49 multiple-choice question was distributed to members of the Italian PCOS community NoiPCOS, including topics such as demographics, PCOS diagnosis experience, symptom management, quality of life, and access to information about PCOS.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome, or endocrine metabolic syndrome (EMS) as recently proposed by the Expert Group on Inositol in basic and clinical research and on PCOS (EGOI-PCOS), manifests as a series of metabolic and hormonal alterations, which are primarily suspected to be underpinned by an underlying metabolic problem. Several of these metabolic issues are shared with metabolic syndrome (MetS), a separate but interrelated metabolic disorder typified by obesity, heightened glucose levels, dyslipidemia, and cardiovascular risk factors.

Objectives: This review sets out to expand upon the interplay between EMS and MetS, defining the key characteristics of each condition prior to discussing treatment options that may benefit both sets of patients.

The subject of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has been extensively covered in the literature; however, there is a paucity of data regarding eumenorrheic women with hyperandrogenism and/or hyperandrogenemia without ultrasound evidence of PCO morphology (EuHyperA), and even less data on the comparison between PCOS and EuHyperA subjects. It has previously been shown that around half of PCOS women exhibit a hyper-response of serum 17-hydroxy-progesterone (17-OHP) to the stimulation by GnRH-agonists, also indicated as functional ovarian hyperandrogenism (FOH). Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is defined as the combination of polycystic morphology, hyperandrogenism, and ovulatory disruption; this heterogeneity presents a conundrum for the medical community. The Rotterdam criteria have governed the diagnosis of PCOS, separating the patient cohort into four distinct phenotypes. It has been suggested that the lone normoandrogenic phenotype, so-called phenotype D, should not be classified as a PCOS subtype, with phenotypes A, B, and C displaying a hyperandrogenic biochemical and clinical profile thought to be characteristic of PCOS.
