Background: Childhood trauma is a well-established risk factor for psychosis, paranoia, and substance use, with cannabis being a modifiable environmental factor that exacerbates these vulnerabilities. This study examines the interplay between childhood trauma, cannabis use, and paranoia using standard tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) units as a comprehensive measure of cannabis exposure.

We describe New World screwworm (Cochliomyia hominivorax) infestation in 2 injured mountain tapirs (Tapirus pinchaque) from a protected area in the Central Andes, Colombia. Screwworms were not a known threat to mountain tapirs. Community outreach is needed to raise awareness on effects of this parasite on humans, domestic animals, and wildlife.

Disturbance by native herbivores is generally low due to co-evolution with vegetation. However, it is unclear whether overgrazing can occur at high population densities. In a wildlife reserve of northeastern Patagonia, we predicted that guanaco overgrazing would be evidenced by: 1) guanaco density over the environmental carrying capacity; 2) decrease in the cover of total canopy, perennial grasses, plant bases, biological soil crusts, and litter, and increase in the proportion of bare soil and desert pavement, and 3) temporal trends of plant and soil variables will be negatively associated with guanaco density, while remaining little affected by climatic variation.

Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune and autoinflammatory disorder defined by abnormal skin cell turnover and inflammation, resulting in the formation of plaques on the skin. Although biologic therapies targeting interleukin (IL)-17 and IL-23 have significantly improved the treatment landscape for moderate-to-severe psoriasis, they are not effective for all patients. Background: In arid and semiarid environments, microbial activity is restricted by low water availability and high evapotranspiration rates, and soil development is limited. Radionuclides used for imaging and therapy can show high molecular specificity in the body with appropriate targeting ligands. We hypothesized that local energy delivered by molecularly targeted radionuclides could chemically activate prodrugs at disease sites while avoiding activation in off-target sites of toxicity. As proof of principle, we tested whether this strategy of radionuclide-induced drug engagement for release (RAiDER) could locally deliver combined radiation and chemotherapy to maximize tumor cytotoxicity while minimizing off-target exposure to activated chemotherapy.

Childhood adversity is associated with various clinical dimensions in psychosis; however, how genetic vulnerability shapes the adversity-associated psychopathological signature is yet to be studied. We studied data of 583 First Episode Psychosis (FEP) cases from the EU-GEI FEP case-control study, including Polygenic risk scores for major depressive disorder (MDD-PRS), bipolar disorder (BD-PRS) and schizophrenia (SZ-PRS); childhood adversity measured with the total score of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ); and positive, negative, depressive and manic psychopathological domains from a factor model of transdiagnostic dimensions. Genes and environment interactions were explored as a departure from a multiplicative effect of PRSs and total CTQ on each dimension.

Endometrial cancer is one of few cancers that has continued to rise in incidence over the past decade, with disproportionate increases in adults younger than 50 years old. We used data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Registry (2000-2019) to examine endometrial cancer incidence trends by race/ethnicity and age of onset among women in the United States. Case counts and proportions, age-adjusted incidence rates (per 100 000), and average annual percent changes were calculated by race/ethnicity, overall and stratified by age of onset (early vs late).

However, this process can be altered by low serum levels of folic acid, environmental factors, or genetic predispositions. This study examines how racialization processes (conceptualized as multilevel and dynamic processes) shape prenatal mental health by testing the association of discrimination and the John Henryism hypothesis on depressive symptoms for pregnant Mexican-origin immigrant women. We analyzed baseline data (n = 218) from a healthy lifestyle intervention for pregnant Latinas in Detroit, Michigan. Using separate multiple linear regression models, we examined the independent and joint associations of discrimination and John Henryism with depressive symptoms and effect modification by socioeconomic position.
