Copepods are the most abundant metazoan/mesozooplankton in the ocean and are adapted to survive in diverse environmental conditions. Exclusive studies on copepods in the Eastern Arabian Sea (EAS) with emphasis on their composition and ecophysiological characteristics, especially from the perennial oceanic Oxygen Minimum Zone (OMZ), are almost absent. Therefore, this work presents the results of a stratum-wise vertical sampling of mesozooplankton over the mixed layer, thermocline, and OMZ along the Indian west coast in the EAS using a Multiple Plankton Net during the Northeast Monsoon (NEM) and Southwest Monsoon (SWM).

Heavy metals accumulate in the marine food chain and their excessive amounts are hazardous to aquatic and human lives. The current study presents the role of ecosystem variables especially tides in deciding the presence of ten heavy metals (Fe, Zn, Cu, Co, Cr, Mn, Ni, V, Pb, and Cd) in seawater and copepods along the Indian west coast. The Indian northwestern coast is an industrial hub, where thousands of industries release enormous volumes of effluents, while the southwest coast has a far lower number of industries.

The eastern Arabian Sea has both seasonal and permanent/perennial OMZs, but our understanding of the fauna there is extremely poor. Ectopic adrenal rests refer to the presence of adrenal tissue outside its normal anatomical location and are usually discovered incidentally on microscopic examination. Literature suggests its occurrence in diverse extrarenal sites, like the genitourinary system and pelvis. Our case describes the rare occurrence of ectopic adrenal rests in the walls of bilateral fallopian tubes of a 43-year-old female patient who presented with a complaint of heavy menstrual bleeding.

This study examines the composition, abundance, and distribution of copepods during the Northeast Monsoon [(NEM); November to February] and SWM in 50 m depth zones along the Indian western shelf in the eastern Arabian Sea. The NEM was characterised by warm, stratified, and low-salinity waters in the southeast Arabian Sea and cold, high-salinity, and well-mixed waters in the northeastern Arabian Sea.
