Introduction: Collagenous sprue (CS) is an extremely rare enteropathy of unknown etiology and if untreated, can lead to substantial morbidity and mortality. CS often copresents with celiac disease. The presence of a subepithelial collagen band on histology differentiates CS from celiac disease, as both have villous blunting.

We report a case of fatal babesiosis in a 48-year-old male without significant risk factors for a severe presentation. Clinicians should be aware that even in patients without the classic risk factors of asplenia, advanced age, and immunocompromised status for severe presentations of babesiosis, a deadly case can present.

We therefore used multiple imaging and histologic NAFLD endpoints to more comprehensively assess the association between VDD and NAFLD in a large pediatric population.
Methods: Data were obtained from an ongoing pediatric NAFLD study in Bronx, NY.
