Objective: To evaluate whether Veterans infected with SARS-CoV-2 have an elevated risk for needing mental health emergency care (MHEC) relative to uninfected comparators, as measured by emergency department or urgent care clinic utilization for a mental health diagnosis.
Data Sources/extraction: Data from Veterans Health Administration (VHA), VHA-paid, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid-paid services were used to identify incident MHEC use within 1 year of infection for Veterans with a SARS-CoV-2 infection and matched comparators.
Study Design: This was a national, retrospective cohort study that leveraged a target trial emulation framework to examine long-term outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 infection among Veterans enrolled in VHA care.
Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been linked to the development of post-COVID-19 conditions (PCCs). We investigated whether severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection increases the risk of selected PCCs or death up to 1 year after infection, separately in the wild-type (WT), Alpha-transition, Delta, and Omicron eras and by vaccination status.
Methods: We used health records of the Veterans Health Administration to emulate a hypothetical target trial of SARS-CoV-2 infection versus no infection.
Purpose: Subclinical peroneal neuropathy without overt foot drop has been linked to increased fall risk in adults, yet remains under reported due to subtle symptoms and lack of awareness. Patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) often experience other nerve entrapments, prompting this study to evaluate CTS (a proxy for peroneal nerve entrapment) as a significant predictor of time to first fall.
Methods: Data from the Merative MarketScan Research Databases (2007-2021) were used to identify adult patients using ICD-9/10 codes.

Background: Uptake and access to HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is key to reducing incident HIV infections. Pharmacists are one of the most accessible health care professionals in the United States and are well suited to address this need.
Observations: We describe a model of care at the Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System in which clinical pharmacist practitioners developed and implemented a pharmacy-led PrEP clinic colocated within an infectious disease clinic.

Background: Understanding how SARS-CoV-2 infection impacts long-term patient outcomes requires identification of comparable persons with and without infection. We report the design and implementation of a matching strategy employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) COVID-19 Observational Research Collaboratory (CORC) to develop comparable cohorts of SARS-CoV-2 infected and uninfected persons for the purpose of inferring potential causative long-term adverse effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the Veteran population.
Methods: In a retrospective cohort study, we identified VA health care system patients who were and were not infected with SARS-CoV-2 on a rolling monthly basis.
Purpose: Marginalized communities have been disproportionally impacted by SARS-CoV-2. How the associations between social determinants of health and the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection shifted across time is unknown. In this evaluation, we examine individual-level social determinants of health as social risk factors for SARS-CoV-2 infection across the first 12 months of the pandemic among US Veterans.

We evaluated the effectiveness of SOF/VEL/VOX for 12 weeks in DAA-experienced patients with genotype 1-4 treated in clinical practice.
