The rearranged-during-transfection (RET) kinase is a validated target for the treatment of RET-altered cancers. Currently approved RET-selective kinase inhibitors, selpercatinib (LOXO-292) and pralsetinib (BLU-667), increase the oncogenic RET protein level upon treatment, which may affect their efficacy. We seek to reduce the oncogenic RET protein level and RET kinase activity simultaneously.

This research introduces a novel approach using silver (Ag) nanostructures generated through electrochemical deposition and photo-reduction of Ag on fluorine-doped tin oxide glass substrates (denoted as X-Ag-AgFTO, where 'X' and 'y' represent the type of light source and number of deposited cycles, respectively) for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). This study used malachite green (MG) as a Raman probe to evaluate the enhancement factors (EFs) in SERS-active substrates under varied fabrication conditions. For the substrates produced via electrochemical deposition, we determined a Raman EF of 6.

Despite the rapid development of the immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) in melanoma treatment, the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) still hinders the efficacy of immunotherapy. Recently, using agonists to modulate the TME have presented promising clinical responses in combination with ICB therapies. However, local intratumoral injection as the commonly used administration route for immune agonists would lead to low patient compliance.

Nanoscale outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) secreted by Gram-negative bacteria are often applied in antibacterial treatment as adjuvants or antigens. Recently, OMVs have also been tested in a few anti-tumor treatment studies, in which OMVs are injected multiple times to achieve certain therapeutic effects, showing risks in repeated cytokine storms. Herein, we propose the use a single low dose of OMVs combined with photothermal therapy (PTT) for effective cancer treatment.

We analyzed the clinical and laboratory data of 106 children (17 boys and 89 girls, 11.7 +/- 3.4 years old) with newly diagnosed Graves' disease at Chang-Gung Children's Hospital in Taiwan from 1995 to 2005.

Background: It has been suggested that longitudinal rather than cross-sectional growth standards be used to assess individual growth patterns. Thus, the aim of this study was to follow boys and girls throughout their pubertal years, so that a mixed longitudinal growth curve of height, weight, sitting height, arm span, skinfold thickness, body mass index (BMI), and the ratio of sitting height or arm span to stature, could be obtained.

Methods: A defined group of 1,139 healthy schoolchildren (570 boys and 569 girls) from the Shih-Pai district of Taipei were followed longitudinally for 4 years.

Background: It has been pointed out that longitudinal rather than cross-sectional growth standards should be used to assess individual linear growth. The purpose of this study is to investigate the growth characteristics of school boys and girls living in Shih-Pai district in Taipei.

Methods: A defined group of 1,139 healthy school children (570 boys and 569 girls) from the Shih-Pai district of Taipei city were followed longitudinally for 3 to 4 years.

We have investigated the morphometric changes in the cochlear nucleus of patients who had undergone cochlear implantation following profound deafness. The brain stems of 11 adult patients who had undergone implantation and four non-implanted control cases with varying degrees of hearing loss were studied. The volumes of the ventral cochlear nucleus (VCN) and dorsal cochlear nucleus (DCN), and the maximal cross-sectional area and densities of cell bodies in the anterior ventral cochlear nucleus (AVCN) were measured bilaterally by light microscopy assisted by the Neurolucida 2000 image analysis system.

Congenital nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (NDI) is, in most instances, a rare X-linked recessive renal disorder (MIM 304800) characterized by the clinical symptoms of polyuria, polydipsia, and dehydration. The X-linked NDI is associated with mutations of the arginine vasopressin receptor type 2 (AVPR2) gene, which results in resistance to the antidiuretic action of arginine vasopressin (AVP) in the renal tubules and collecting ducts. Identification of mutations in the AVPR2 gene can facilitate early diagnosis of NDI, which can prevent serious complications such as growth retardation and mental retardation.
