Dipterocarpol exhibited cytotoxic properties; however, its hydrophobic nature resulted in decreased bioavailability. This study successfully synthesized six new alkyl triphenylphosphonium dipterocarpol derivatives (1-6) with good yield. These derivatives demonstrated enhanced cytotoxic potency against MCF-7, an estrogen receptor α-positive (ERα+) breast cancer cell line (IC, 1.

: Hyperornithinemia-hyperammonemia-homocitrullinuria syndrome (HHH; OMIM 238970) is one of the rare urea cycle disorders. Ornithine carrier 1 deficiency causes HHH syndrome, characterized by failure of mitochondrial ornithine uptake, hyperammonemia, and accumulation of ornithine and lysine in the cytoplasm. The initial presentation and time of diagnosis in HHH highly varies.

This meta-analysis explored the association between diabetes and survival outcomes in this population.
Methods: A total of 10 non-randomized studies comparing overall survival between patients with NSCLC receiving ICIs with and without diabetes were included.
We introduce NPKGRIDS, a new geospatial dataset, providing for the first time data on application rates for all three main plant nutrients, nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P, in terms of phosphorus pentoxide, PO) and potassium (K, in terms of potassium oxide, KO) across 173 crops as of 2020, with a geospatial resolution of 0.05° (approximately 5.6 km at the equator).

This research aims at dealing with this and investigates the valorization of mannan-rich copra meal from virgin coconut oil manufacturing into mannan-oligosaccharides (β-MOS) by enzymatic hydrolysis using β-mannanase from Bacillus licheniformis (BlMan26B). Lab-scale process, involving pre-treatment and bioconversion steps, were conducted and evaluated.

Background Malnutrition is strongly associated with lower quality of life (QoL) and lower survival rates in patients with end-stage kidney disease. However, the impact of renal transplantation on nutrition factors and QoL is unclear. Therefore, this study aims to assess changes in QoL and investigate the relationships with nutrition factors among kidney transplant recipients (KTRs).

This work evaluates the immobilization yield of a chitosanase (CsnA, 30 kDa) from and a mannanase (ManB, 40 kDa) from on the surface of WCFS1 using either a single LysM domain derived from the extracellular transglycosylase Lp_3014 or a double LysM domain derived from the muropeptidase Lp_2162. ManB and CsnA were fused with the LysM domains of Lp_3014 or Lp_2162, produced in and anchored to the cell surface of .

The mitochondria-targeted approach successfully synthesized eight new alkyl triphenylphosphonium pinostrobin derivatives (1-8) with good yield in this study. Seven compounds (1-3, 5-8) showed greater cytotoxic potency against the human MCF-7 breast cancer cell line than pinostrobin.

This study presents a phytochemical analysis of the leaves of , revealing the isolation of a new apotirucallane-type protolimonoid, identified as 25--methyl-1,2-dihydroprotoxylocarpin D (), along with two known compounds ( and ). The known compounds were identified as (20,21,23)-21,23-epoxy-7,24,25-trihydroxy-21--methyl-3-oxoapotirucalla-14-ene () and 7,24,25-trihydroxy-3-oxoapotirucalla-14-en-21,23-olide (). The three apotirucallane-type protolimonoids (-) did not exhibit cytotoxicity against MCF-7 cells at a concentration of 100 µM.

Recently, scavenging of ROS reduced the cytotoxicity of DOX, suggesting a new approach for using DOX as an anticancer treatment. Thus, in this study, non-silica and silica redox nanoparticles (denoted as RNP and siRNP, respectively) with ROS scavenging features have been designed to encapsulate DOX and reduce its cytotoxicity.

Mitochondria, ubiquitous double-membrane-bound organelles, regulate energy production, support cellular activities, harbor metabolic pathways, and, paradoxically, mediate cell fate. Evidence has shown mitochondria as points of convergence for diverse cell death-inducing pathways that trigger the various mechanisms underlying apoptotic and nonapoptotic programmed cell death. Thus, dysfunctional cellular pathways eventually lead or contribute to various age-related diseases, such as neurodegenerative, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

Caliciviruses are known to induce intrinsic apoptosis in vitro and in vivo, however, calicivirus-induced necroptosis remains to be fully elucidated. Here, we demonstrate that infection of porcine kidney LLC-PK cells with porcine sapovirus (PSaV) Cowden strain as a representative of caliciviruses induces receptor-interacting protein kinase 1 (RIPK1)-dependent necroptosis and acts as proviral compared to the antiviral function of PSaV-induced apoptosis.

Microplastic fibres are the most abundant microplastics in waterways worldwide. The settling of fibres is distinct from other particles because of their aspect ratio and shape. In this paper, we test the hypothesis that length, curliness, and settling orientation control the settling velocity of microplastic fibres in a suite of laboratory experiments.

During this immunosuppressive phase, patients may have difficulty eradicating invading pathogens and are susceptible to life-threatening secondary hospital-acquired infections. Due to progress in antimicrobial treatment and supportive care, most patients survive early sepsis.

Despite the obvious negative consequences of the pandemic, many have called for efforts to identify transformative opportunities for sustainable development throughout this disorderly time. In the present paper, we explore such potential opportunities in the context of an interdisciplinary, international research project, which is focusing on sustainable marine management in biosphere reserves and marine parks in Southeast Asia.
