Human fatty acid binding protein-4 (FABP-4), a protein elevated in obesity that promotes colon cancer cell invasiveness and metastasis, may be associated with higher mortality in individuals with colorectal cancer (CRC) and may serve as a mediator of the obesity-mortality association in these individuals. We used a causal diagram to inform covariate selection and applied Cox proportional hazards models to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) for CRC-specific, non-CRC-specific, and all-cause mortality by FABP-4 levels measured in baseline blood samples from 1371 incident CRC cases from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition cohort. Competing risk analyses were adapted for CRC and non-CRC deaths.

Aims: This study aims at evaluating the trend of glycemic control metrics during the infection of SARS-CoV-2 in individuals with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) using a Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) system and vaccinated against COVID-19.
Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective study of T1D subjects who got a breakthrough SARS-CoV-2 infection between November 2021 and February 2022. Data of glycemic control of CGM-derived metrics were compared 14 days before COVID-19 (Time 1), 14 days during COVID-19 (Time 2) and 14 days after COVID-19 (Time 3).
Brucella is a Gram-negative facultative intracellular pathogen that causes infection in sheep and goats (); can also infect other animals. Sheep and goat brucellosis is still present in some regions of Italy, including Campania, and causes considerable economic losses and health threats. The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible risk factors influencing the spread of brucellosis among sheep and goat farms in the Campania region in order to provide the local veterinary services with practical support in evaluating and planning diagnostic, preventive and control interventions.

To find prognostic factors for advanced ovarian cancer patients undergoing first-line therapy with carboplatin, paclitaxel and bevacizumab, we investigated the expression of a disintegrin and metalloprotease 17 (ADAM17) in cancer tissues. ADAM17 has been involved in ovarian cancer development, progression and cell resistance to cisplatin. Tissue microarrays from 309 ovarian cancer patients enrolled in the MITO16A/MANGO-OV2 clinical trial were analyzed by immunohistochemistry for ADAM17 protein expression.

We performed a network meta-analysis to compare the effect on cardiorenal outcomes among GLP-1 RAs, SGLT-2 inhibitors and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors.
Methods: We searched the PUBMED, Embase and Cochrane databases for relevant studies published up until 10 December 2021.
Background: CA125 is the best available yet insufficiently sensitive biomarker for early detection of ovarian cancer. There is a need to identify novel biomarkers, which individually or in combination with CA125 can achieve adequate sensitivity and specificity for the detection of earlier-stage ovarian cancer.

We assessed the predictive accuracy of the Warfarin Pharmacogenetics Consortium (IWPC) algorithm in a prospective cohort of 376 high-risk elderly patients (≥65 years) who required new treatment with warfarin for either medical (non valvular atrial fibrillation) or surgical conditions (heart valve replacement), had ≥1 comorbid conditions, and regularly used ≥2 other drugs. Follow-up visits were performed according to clinical practice and lasted for a maximum of 1 year. Two hundred and eighty-three (75%) patients achieved a stable maintenance dose.
