: The objective of this study was to evaluate changes in anatomical point position, cranio-cervical posture, and respiratory dimensions following conventional bimaxillary total prosthetic rehabilitation. A prospective, longitudinal, observational, analytical study was conducted on 12 patients, aged 55 to 75 years, at the Department of Dental Prosthetics at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca. All patients had complete bimaxillary edentulism and received removable dentures as treatment.

Although influenced also by other parameters, adherence to the treatment scheme is the most important for adequate drug exposure. This can be assessed by therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM).

Correlation Between Type of Edentulism, Age, Socioeconomic Status and General Health.

: Edentulism is a significant public health concern, particularly among aging populations, affecting oral functionality, aesthetics, and overall health. This study assessed the edentulism status of patients at the Prosthodontic Clinic of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and explored the possible correlations with socioeconomic factors such as age, general health, smoking, and alcohol consumption. This study aimed to inform public health strategies to reduce edentulism incidence and improve overall oral health outcomes in Romania.

The influence of different types of bevels on the fracture resistance of directly restored lower anterior teeth.

Background And Aims: In recent years, dental trauma has been on the rise. The most common, regarding permanent dentition, are uncomplicated fractures (involving enamel or enamel and dentin) of the maxillary central incisors, followed by maxillary lateral incisors and mandibular central incisors. In anterior teeth, high impact stresses are frequently produced and because of this it is necessary that the restoration has a high fracture resistance.

Smile Design and Treatment Planning-Conventional versus Digital-A Pilot Study.

Introduction: Several methods are currently available for providing a preview of the prosthodontic treatment, including computer simulations, 3D models, wax-ups, and mock-ups. The aim of this study is to compare the aesthetic aspects and assessment of conventional versus digital prefigurative methods.

Methods: The study included 5 patients and 3 observers, for each of whom a wax-up was made in both the conventional and digital techniques.

Liver fibrosis progression in a cohort of young HIV and HIV/ HBV co-infected patients: A longitudinal study using non-invasive APRI and Fib-4 scores.

Background: The risk of liver fibrosis increases over time in HIV and HIV-HBV individuals even under antiretroviral treatment (ART), warranting a rigorous and periodic monitorization. Given the lower availability of transient elastography, we aimed to assess the longitudinal variation of two non-invasive liver fibrosis scores, APRI and Fib-4, in cases with HIV monoinfection, HIV-HBV co-infection and individuals with HBsAg-seroclearance.

Methods: We performed an observational retrospective study between 2013 and 2019 on 212 HIV patients including 111 individuals with HIV mono-infection, 62 individuals with HIV-HBV co-infection and positive HBsAg and 39 cases with HIV-HBV infection and HBsAg-loss.

Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in HIV/HBV Patients - a Metabolic Imbalance Aggravated by Antiretroviral Therapy and Perpetuated by the Hepatokine/Adipokine Axis Breakdown.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is strongly associated with the metabolic syndrome and is one of the most prevalent comorbidities in HIV and HBV infected patients. HIV plays an early and direct role in the development of metabolic syndrome by disrupting the mechanism of adipogenesis and synthesis of adipokines. Adipokines, molecules that regulate the lipid metabolism, also contribute to the progression of NAFLD either directly or hepatic organokines (hepatokines).

The Epidemiology of Bruxism in Relation to Psychological Factors.

The aim of the present study was to establish the prevalence of sleep/awake bruxism among young students in Transylvania and to correlate the presence of this muscle activity with behavioral variations. This analytical, observational, cohort, cross-sectional, and prospective study involved 308 volunteers aged between 19 and 30 years of different nationalities, all students of the "Iuliu Hațieganu" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Subjects were asked to complete an anonymous questionnaire which was structured in five sections.

Background: All body systems involved in ensuring a healthy posture (musculoskeletal system, oculomotor, oto-vestibular and occluso-cranial-mandibular) are essential in maintaining postural balance.

Research Question: Does experimental malocclusion in subjects in static position determine variations in plantar pressure?

Methods: Overall, 31 subjects were included in the study. The plantar pressure was evaluated in five different points: lateral and medial heel, midfoot, 1st and 5th metatarsal area.

: The primary oral disease during adolescence is dental caries. Less is known about the caries prevalence, oral health behavior, and sweets nutritional habits in Romanian adolescents. The objective of this study was to assess the actual caries prevalence among Romanian adolescents in a representative area of Romania, Cluj, and to correlate with oral hygiene behaviors and dietary sugary foods intake.

Clinical occlusion analysis versus semi-adjustable articulator and virtual articulator occlusion analysis.

Background And Aims: Identifying the optimal method for occlusion analysis by comparing examination sensitivity of the static and dynamic occlusion using three systems: clinical occlusion analysis, semi-adjustable articulator and virtual articulator (3Shape, Denmark) occlusion analysis.

Methods: The occlusion analysis of sixteen patients was performed using the three systems. In order to analyze the number of concordant and discordant points and trajectories, the clinical method was compared to the semi-adjustable articulator and to the computerized method.

Infectious Threats, the Intestinal Barrier, and Its Trojan Horse: Dysbiosis.

The ecosystem of the gut microbiota consists of diverse intestinal species with multiple metabolic and immunologic activities and it is closely connected with the intestinal epithelia and mucosal immune response, with which it builds a complex barrier against intestinal pathogenic bacteria. The microbiota ensures the integrity of the gut barrier through multiple mechanisms, either by releasing antibacterial molecules (bacteriocins) and anti-inflammatory short-chain fatty acids or by activating essential cell receptors for the immune response. Experimental studies have confirmed the role of the intestinal microbiota in the epigenetic modulation of the gut barrier through posttranslational histone modifications and regulatory mechanisms induced by epithelial miRNA in the epithelial lumen.

: To analyze the association between sleep bruxism (SB), salivary cortisol, and psychological state in healthy adults.: Sixty healthy students (with or without SB) were included in the study. The subjects completed a questionnaire that evaluated the presence of SB and analyzed the general and work-related psychological states and job-related frustration.

DRESS syndrome with hepatic involvement in a patient with depressive disorder.

We present a 31-year-old woman with a depressive disorder admitted in the Infectious Diseases Department with high fever, cervical lymphadenopathy, generalized rash and progressive jaundice. Sepsis with hepatic involvement was initially suspected, but the bacteriological and serological profiles for viral and bacterial pathogens remained negative. The exposure to antidepressant medication including lamotrigine, an aromatic anticonvulsant molecule, raised the suspicion of Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS) Syndrome.

Antibacterial function of the human cathelicidin-18 peptide (LL-37) between theory and practice.

The human cathelicidin-18 is an antimicrobial, immunomodulatory and tissue repair peptide. The LL-37 fragment of this peptide which is in fact the active domain of the cathelicidin-18 is critical for the human antibacterial defense and epithelial integrity. It's activity against resistant pathogens, the potential of epithelial healing after microbial injury and the neutralization of bacterial endotoxin underlie the most important benefits of this peptide.

A case of irreversible leukoencephalopathy in a patient with C virus hepatitis treated with pegylated interferon-alpha-2b and ribavirin.

We describe the case of a patient with C chronic hepatitis and early virological response on pegylated-interferon-alpha based therapy who presented clinical manifestations and magnetic resonance imaging suggestive for toxic leukoencephalopathy after 5 months of treatment. The negative results for neurotropic infectious agents and autoimmune markers opened the discussion of toxic interferon-induced leukoencephalopathy as a rare, but threatening neurologic side effect of this therapy.

The human cathelicidin LL37 peptide has high plasma levels in B and C hepatitis related to viral activity but not to 25-hydroxyvitamin D plasma level.

Unlabelled: The serum level of the human cathelicidin-LL37, an immunomodulatory vitamin D-induced peptide was less studied in viral hepatitis. The aim of this study was to analyse the cathelicidin-LL37 and vitamin D serum level in hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections and their correlations.

Methods: A total of 52 patients with HBV and HCV hepatitis and 22 controls were selected.
