The Himalayan marmot (Marmota himalayana) is a hibernating mammal that inhabits the high-elevation regions of the Himalayan mountains. Here we present a draft genome of the Himalayan marmot, with a total assembly length of 2.47 Gb.

The complete mitochondrial genome of the Tamarisk gerbil, (Rodentia: Muridae).

The complete mitochondrial genome of the Tamarisk jird, , was sequenced. The 16,389bp genome contains 37 genes, typical for rodent mitogenomes, including 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 13 protein-coding genes. The total GC content of the mitochondrial genome is 36.

Alterations to proteins in the lens of hereditary Crygs-mutated cataractous mice.

Purpose: To investigate the altered expression of proteins in the lens of mice with inherited cataracts.

Methods: Mice with inherited cataracts caused by a spontaneous mutation of the gene gamma S-crystallin (Crygs) were used as the subjects. Lens proteins were extracted and separated by two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE).

The gamma S-crystallin gene is mutated in autosomal recessive cataract in mouse.

We established a recessive cataract model from a spontaneous mutation in the KUNMING outbred mice. Lens opacity appears 11 days after birth. Slit lamp examination reveals that the opacity mainly localizes to the nuclear region of the lens.
