Background: In recent years, comprehensive analyses using a genome-wide association study (GWAS) have been conducted to identify genetic factors related to athletic performance. In this study, we investigated the association between genetic variants and elite wrestling status across multiple ethnic groups using a genome-wide genotyping approach.
Methods: This study included 168 elite wrestlers (64 Japanese, 67 Turkish, and 36 Russian), all of whom had competed in international tournaments, including the Olympic Games.
Long-lasting neurological issues, including cognitive impairment, anxiety, and depression, that persist after recovery from acute inflammatory diseases, such as infections, have become a significant social problem, particularly following the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. Various diagnostic techniques and biomarkers have been explored to objectively evaluate brain symptoms associated with infection-induced local or systemic inflammatory responses (i.e.

We assessed the association between urinary sodium concentration, diuretic response (DR) following IV furosemide administration, and their prognostic implications in patients with AHF.
Methods: The diuretic resistance measured by sodium excretion and urine output (DIURESIS)-AHF study was a prospective, multicenter, observational study that assessed spot urinary sodium concentrations at 0/1/2 h, total urine output, and urinary sodium excretion achieved within the first 6 h following initial IV furosemide administration.
Introduction: Up to 54% of all lung adenocarcinoma (LADC) cases in Asian populations occur in never-smoking women, suggesting that the impact of smoking and other environmental factors on the risk of early-onset LADC is minimal. Genetic factors may play a crucial role in disease development.
Methods: The prevalence of germline pathogenic variants (GPVs) of 454 hereditary cancer and DNA repair genes was evaluated by whole-exome and whole-genome sequencing of 348 early-onset LADC (aged ≤ 40 y) and 1425 later-onset LADC (aged ≥ 41 y) cases.
Background: Serum N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) values after initiating sacubitril/valsartan (Sac/Val) are considered a favorable prognostic factor in patients with heart failure (HF). However the relationship between the trajectory of repeated NT-proBNP measurements and cardiovascular events after Sac/Val remains uncertain.
Methods And Results: A Japanese nationwide multicenter study enrolled 995 patients who were prescribed Sac/Val from August 2020 to August 2021.

Background: Although the Meta-Analysis Global Group in Chronic Heart Failure (MAGGIC) risk score is a validated mortality risk tool in heart failure (HF), its utility in assessing drug-related adverse events (DAEs) associated with sacubitril/valsartan initiation remains unclear. This study evaluated the association between the MAGGIC risk score and DAEs related to sacubitril/valsartan initiation in a Japanese multicenter cohort.
Methods: We analyzed 787 patients with HF initiated on sacubitril/valsartan 100 mg/day between August 2020 and August 2021.
The study investigated the clinicopathological features and characteristic immune tumor microenvironment (TME) of lung squamous cell carcinoma (SqCC) adjacent to emphysematous lesions. 184 consecutive patients with peripheral-type SqCC who had undergone complete surgical resection were enrolled. The clinicopathological differences between emphysema-adjacent SqCC (EA-SqCC) and non-emphysema-adjacent SqCC (non-EA-SqCC) were examined.

This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of upfront (U)-RT combined with ICIs for aBM.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed consecutive patients with aBM from NSCLC who received ICI-containing chemotherapy at National Cancer Center Hospital East between 2016 and 2021.
Introduction: The incidence of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations is higher among Asian patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer than the general advanced non-small cell lung cancer population. We evaluated the efficacy and safety of amivantamab in combination with lazertinib versus osimertinib in Asian participants from the phase 3 MARIPOSA study who had treatment-naïve advanced non-small cell lung cancer with common EGFR mutations.
Methods: Participants were randomized 2:2:1 to receive amivantamab-lazertinib, osimertinib alone, or lazertinib alone.
Background: Women with heart failure (HF) ejection fraction appeared to respond more favorably to sacubitril/valsartan, compared with valsartan, than men in PARAGON-HF (Prospective Comparison of ARNI With ARB Global Outcomes in Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction), driven by a greater reduction in total (first and recurrent) HF hospitalizations. Sex-specific efficacy and safety of sacubitril/valsartan in PARADIGM-HF (Prospective Comparison of ARNI With ACEI to Determine Impact on Global Mortality and Morbidity in Heart Failure) remain unreported.
Methods And Results: This post hoc analysis of PARADIGM-HF examined sex-based outcomes in patients with HF and reduced ejection fraction randomized to sacubitril/valsartan or enalapril.
Importance: Heart failure (HF) with mildly reduced or preserved ejection fraction and atrial fibrillation (AF) are closely intertwined.
Objective: To examine the efficacy and safety of the nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist finerenone in patients with HF with mildly reduced or preserved ejection fraction according to the absence or presence of AF and the type of AF (paroxysmal vs persistent or permanent).
Design, Setting, And Participants: Prespecified analyses were conducted in the Finerenone Trial to Investigate Efficacy and Safety Superior to Placebo in Patients With Heart Failure (FINEARTS-HF) randomized clinical trial.
Background: EGFR exon 19 insertions (EGFRex19ins) are rare EGFR mutations. Their clinical-genomic characteristics and outcomes with EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) remain uncertain.
Methods: We evaluated the clinical-genomic characteristics and outcomes of EGFR-TKIs for EGFRex19ins in the multi-institutional prospective lung cancer genomic screening project (LC-SCRUM-Asia).
Introduction: Resistance to EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors is influenced by tumor-intrinsic and -extrinsic factors. We investigated the impact of tumor cell histology and tumor microenvironment on the efficacy of osimertinib.
Methods: We evaluated surgically resected adenocarcinoma from patients treated with first-line osimertinib at the National Cancer Center Hospital East (2016-2023), evaluating clinicopathologic characteristics, tumor cell histology, podoplanin expression in cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) identified by immunohistochemistry, and outcomes.
Background: Sacubitril/valsartan has unequivocally demonstrated prognostic improvement in patients with chronic heart failure in large-scale randomized controlled trials. However, it remains uncertain whether patients presenting with asymptomatic hypotension have distinct prognoses compared to those with symptomatic hypotension, and there is no consensus on the optimal strategy for managing asymptomatic hypotension.
Methods And Results: A multicenter retrospective study was conducted, analyzing data from patients initiated on sacubitril/valsartan therapy.
Background And Aims: The association between periprocedural change in tricuspid regurgitation (TR) and outcomes in patients undergoing mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (M-TEER) is unclear. This study aimed to examine the prognostic value of TR before and after M-TEER.
Methods: Patients in the OCEAN-Mitral registry were divided into four groups according to baseline and post-procedure echocardiographic assessments: no TR/no TR (no TR), no TR/significant TR (new-onset TR), significant TR/no TR (normalized TR), and significant TR/significant TR (residual TR) (all represents before/after M-TEER).
Phosphorus (P) availability in soils is often constrained by its accumulation in non-labile phosphorus (NLP) forms, limiting its accessibility to plants. This study examines how soil physical properties, chemical characteristics, and climatic conditions influence phosphorus fractionation and the transformation of NLP into plant-available labile phosphorus (LP). Utilizing global structural equation modeling (SEM), we found that silt content enhances organic phosphorus fractions, including NaHCO-Po and NaOH-Po.

Objectives: The goal of this study was to describe the association between initial decline in eGFR and subsequent clinical outcomes in patients randomized to placebo or finerenone.
Methods: In this prespecified analysis of FINEARTS-HF (Finerenone Trial to Investigate Efficacy and Safety Superior to Placebo in Patients with Heart Failure), we examined the association between initial decline in eGFR (≥15%) from randomization to 1 month and subsequent outcomes in patients assigned to finerenone or placebo.
Aims: This study aimed at developing a scoring system (EAST score) to predict recurrence after chemoradiotherapy in limited-stage small-cell lung cancer (LS-SCLC).
Patients & Methods: Treatment-naïve LS-SCLC patients receiving concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) ( = 234) or sequential chemoradiotherapy ( = 53) were retrospectively reviewed. Using data from CCRT population, clinical and radiological variables associated with disease progression were identified.
Aims: Beta-blockers may inhibit neprilysin activity and conversely, neprilysin inhibition may have a sympatho-inhibitory action. Consequently, sacubitril/valsartan may have a greater effect in patients not receiving a beta-blocker compared to those treated with a beta-blocker.
Methods And Results: We examined the effect of sacubitril/valsartan compared to enalapril on outcomes according to background beta-blocker treatment in the 8399 patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction enrolled in PARADIGM-HF.
Pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma (PC) is a rare non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) with a poor prognosis, characterized by tumor necrosis (TN). NETosis is a form of neutrophil-specific cell death, which is morphologically characterized by prominent neutrophil infiltration and cell detritus in the necrotic foci. Seventy-six patients with pulmonary PC who underwent complete resection were enrolled.
