Functional and electrophysiological outcomes following surgical treatment of cubitus varus associated with tardy ulnar nerve palsy: A case series.

Introduction: Cubitus varus deformity, a common late complication of pediatric supracondylar fractures, is often viewed as cosmetic but can lead to functional issues such as tardy ulnar nerve palsy (TUNP). While both conditions have been studied individually, the literature addressing their coexistence and the optimal surgical approach is limited.

Method: This study investigates functional and electrophysiological outcomes in patients with concurrent cubitus varus and TUNP who underwent tailored surgical treatment.

Diagnostic challenges of carpal tunnel syndrome in patients with congenital thenar hypoplasia: a comprehensive review.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment neuropathy, frequently presenting with pain, numbness, and muscle weakness due to median nerve compression. However, diagnosing CTS becomes particularly challenging in patients with Congenital Thenar Hypoplasia (CTH), a rare congenital anomaly characterized by underdeveloped thenar muscles. The overlapping symptoms of CTH and CTS, such as thumb weakness, impaired hand function, and thenar muscle atrophy, can obscure the identification of median nerve compression.

Efficacy of gabapentin for the prevention of paclitaxel induced peripheral neuropathy: A randomized placebo controlled clinical trial.

Neuropathy is a dose limiting side effect of taxanes which may impact the quality of life and treatment outcomes. This randomized placebo-controlled double-blinded clinical trial was carried out to assess the efficacy of gabapentin in preventing chemotherapy induced neuropathy. Women with breast cancer were randomized into two groups of paclitaxel chemotherapy with gabapentin 300 mg/three times a day orally or placebo for 2 weeks started at day 1 of each paclitaxel cycle.

Vestibular evoked myogenic potential for diagnoses of multiple sclerosis: is it beneficial?

Aim: To determine the sensitivity of the vestibular evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients as well as its relation to clinical signs and symptoms, course of the disease and other evoked potentials.

Methods: This case-control study was conducted on 40 subjects (20 MS patients and 20 healthy participants). Participants were selected from Imam Khomeini Hospital, Tehran, Iran.

Peripheral neuropathy response to erythropoietin in type 2 diabetic patients with mild to moderate renal failure.

This study assessed the added effect of 6 months of erythropoietin (EPO) administration in patients suffering from diabetic neuropathy with mild to moderate chronic kidney disease (CKD) managed with gabapentin. Twenty diabetic patients with mild to moderate CKD were included; 12 in gabapentin and 8 in EPO+gabapentin group. The subjects underwent nerve conduction studies (NCS) at the initiation of the investigation and after 6-month treatment.

Vestibular evoked myogenic potentials of haemodialysed patients with end stage renal disease.

End stage renal disease (ESRD) can cause malfunction of multiple organs, including auditory and vestibular systems. During recent years, a significant amount of research has demonstrated the direct involvement of the otolith organs in stabilizing body and gaze which led to the development of specific functional tests. Stable gaze and body are more important in patients with ESRD, as they have an increased risk of bone fracture.
