Background: Pillar pain and scar-related discomfort are common complications following open carpal tunnel release (CTR). While surgical approaches have been widely studied, the influence of skin closure techniques on postoperative pillar pain remains unclear. This study aimed to compare the effect of two different skin closure methods, subcuticular absorbable monocryl sutures versus interrupted non-absorbable nylon sutures, on postoperative pillar pain and scar quality.

Introduction: Cubitus varus deformity, a common late complication of pediatric supracondylar fractures, is often viewed as cosmetic but can lead to functional issues such as tardy ulnar nerve palsy (TUNP). While both conditions have been studied individually, the literature addressing their coexistence and the optimal surgical approach is limited.

Method: This study investigates functional and electrophysiological outcomes in patients with concurrent cubitus varus and TUNP who underwent tailored surgical treatment.

Background: This review aims to synthesize current knowledge on capitate fractures, with an emphasis on diagnostic challenges, therapeutic approaches, and long-term complications, including nonunion and avascular necrosis.

Methods: A narrative literature review was conducted using databases including PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar for studies published up to April 2025. Keywords included "capitate fracture," "carpal injuries," "avascular necrosis of the capitate," and "capitate nonunion.

Introduction: Charcot arthropathy of the shoulder is a rare, progressive joint disorder associated with neurosensory deficits, most commonly syringomyelia. It is infrequently linked to Arnold-Chiari malformation, making diagnosis and treatment particularly challenging.

Case Presentation: A 51-year-old man presented with chronic, painless swelling and limited range of motion in the right shoulder.

Purpose: A proper balance of soft tissues is essential in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for varus knees, but assessing soft tissue tension preoperatively is challenging. This study aimed to determine whether lower limb alignment angles can predict the necessary degree of soft tissue release.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on 953 patients with varus knees (> 10°) who underwent primary TKA from 2018 to 2020.

Introduction: Isolated capitate fractures are among the rarest carpal injuries and often remain undetected due to subtle radiographic findings and the bone's central location within the carpus. When diagnosis is delayed, complications such as nonunion and avascular necrosis (AVN) may develop, requiring advanced surgical management.

Case Presentation: A 20-year-old male manual laborer presented with persistent wrist pain and restricted motion six months after a motorcycle accident.

Objectives: The survey conducted at the 2024 biennial meeting of the Iranian Society of Knee Surgery, Arthroscopy, and Sports Traumatology (ISKAST) aimed to assess practice trends among ISKAST members in primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA), thereby providing a benchmark for future studies.

Methods: The session moderator presented multiple-choice questions via an audience response system to 94 registered ISKAST members. Responses were collected centrally and subsequently displayed to the audience after a brief interval.

Introduction: Periprosthetic distal femoral fractures (PPDFF) present complex clinical challenges, particularly when accompanied by open injuries and significant bone loss. Conventional treatments, including open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) or distal femoral replacement (DFR), carry high complication rates such as infection, non-union, and implant failure. This report describes a novel hybrid approach combining the Masquelet technique with Debridement, Antibiotics, and Implant Retention (DAIR) for managing open PPDFF.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment neuropathy, frequently presenting with pain, numbness, and muscle weakness due to median nerve compression. However, diagnosing CTS becomes particularly challenging in patients with Congenital Thenar Hypoplasia (CTH), a rare congenital anomaly characterized by underdeveloped thenar muscles. The overlapping symptoms of CTH and CTS, such as thumb weakness, impaired hand function, and thenar muscle atrophy, can obscure the identification of median nerve compression.

Medial meniscal root tears pose significant challenges in orthopaedic practice, disrupting knee biomechanics and predisposing to degenerative changes. This article introduces an arthroscopic repair technique tailored for posterior root tears of the medial meniscus. The procedure involves meticulous preoperative evaluation, arthroscopic identification, and suture anchor fixation to restore normal knee mechanics.

Flail foot is a condition characterized by a significant weakness in ankle dorsiflexion, resulting in limited or no active mobility in the ankle. To address this issue, we described a novel approach called tenodesis, which has been developed for ankle joint stabilization. This technique utilizes the patient's tendons to minimize potential complications.

Journal club is crucial in medical professions education, especially residency training. Critical evaluation allows learners to read, understand, and apply the evidence to bridge the gap between research and practice. Academic members of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) Orthopedic Department have held about 2,300 weekly sessions for around 50 years, even in times of crises, to review the latest publications in orthopedics and sometimes linked their journal clubs to hospitalized cases.
