Background: The relationship between thickness of subcutaneous fat (TSF) and surgical site infection (SSI), as one of the most common complications after appendectomy, has been inconsistent in different studies, which may be due to the low power of these studies. This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the relationship between SSI and TSF after open surgery (OS) and laparoscopic surgery (LS) in patients with appendicitis.

Methods: PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science databases were searched based on mesh terms to find relevant studies from the beginning of 2000 to 2024.

In this study, we successfully utilized natural asphalt as a natural carbon substrate for the synthesis of a novel heterogeneous Brønsted acid nanocatalyst, Re-NA-CHCOH. The -COOH functional groups present on the surface of Reduced Natural Asphalt Oxide (Re-NA-oxide) serve as catalytic sites for Brønsted acid. This arrangement, in addition to increasing acidity, also expands the surface area accessible for catalytic activity, positioning Re-NA-oxide as a viable option for a range of acid-catalyzed reactions.

The effect of atorvastatin compared with rosuvastatin on the prevention of contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has been heterogeneous in different studies, which may be due to the small size of the initial studies. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to compare the effect of atorvastatin versus rosuvastatin on preventing CA-AKI in patients undergoing PCI. The databases PubMed, Embase, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science were searched by two independent investigators from 2000 to 2024 to find articles that evaluated the effect of atorvastatin versus rosuvastatin on the prevention of CA-AKI in cardiac patients undergoing PCI.

The role of the number of negative lymph nodes (NLNs) removed on survival and tumor recurrence after surgery in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is still unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the number of NLNs on overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and recurrence rate of patients with NSCLC after surgery. This multicenter retrospective cohort study examined the medical profile of 1002 patients with a definite diagnosis of NSCLC who underwent surgery between 2021 and 2023 at one of our medical centers.

Purpose Of Review: Whether low birth weight (LBW) and preterm delivery (PD) are associated with the risk of developing celiac disease (CD) in children remains unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the association between LBW and PD with CD development in children.

Recent Findings: We searched PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases based on the Mesh terms to find observational studies that investigated the association of LBW and PD with CD development in children up to July 18, 2024.

In this study, natural asphalt was oxidized to synthesize a new nano-structure adsorbent for dye removal. The functionalization of natural asphalt by oxidation introduced new properties that influenced its activity. The process of oxidizing natural asphalt with potassium permanganate resulted in a low-cost adsorbent, which can potentially be a more affordable option compared with synthetic alternatives.
