Aims: Culture-independent studies in the literature suggest that marine habitats hold diversified chitin-degrading microbial communities. This study was conducted to isolate novel chitinolytic bacteria from two bacteria-rich marine biotopes, namely sponges and sediments, and compare the efficiency with which those strains degrade different forms of chitin.

This research seeks to verify the value of considering specific perceptions of informational and interpersonal justice over and above employees' global perceptions of interactional justice. In Study 1 (Sample 1: = 592; Sample 2: = 384), we examined the underlying structure of workers' perceptions of interactional justice by contrasting first-order and bifactor representations of their ratings. To investigate the true added value of specific informational and interpersonal justice perceptions once global interactional justice perceptions are taken into account, we also considered the relations between these global and specific perceptions and various outcomes.

Better Understanding the Workers' Retirement Decision Attitudes: Development and Validation of a New Measure.

The aim of the present research was to develop a measure that could be used in future research for in-depth study of the psychological management of retirement. We report the results of six studies involving 1,898 French workers designed to develop and assess the psychometric properties of a new instrument named the Workers' Retirement Motivations Inventory (WRMI) using the push pull anti-push anti-pull model. The items were constructed based on a review of the relevant psychological literature and face-to-face interviews with senior workers.

Antimicrobial Susceptibility among Urban Wastewater and Wild Shellfish Isolates of Non-O1/Non-O139 from La Rance Estuary (Brittany, France).

The early 2000s marked the end of the Golden age of the antibiotics and the beginning of the awareness on the potential threat to human health due to the dissemination of antimicrobial resistance. As a base-line study, we investigated the antimicrobial susceptibility of 99 strains of non-O1/non-O139 isolated from wastewater and shellfish in 2000/2001 within La Rance estuary (Brittany, France). All isolates were susceptible to amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, cefotaxime, imipenem, chloramphenicol, nalidixic acid, ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, amikacin, gentamicin, tetracycline, doxycycline, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, and erythromycin.

Organizational and Managerial Resources and Quality of Care in French Pediatric Oncology Nursing.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between nurses' organizational and managerial resources (ie, perceived organizational support and transformational leadership) and their quality of patient care, and second, the mediating role of job satisfaction in these relationships. Participants were 510 nurses from 25 out of 29 French pediatric oncology units. Structural equation modeling results revealed that perceived organizational support and transformational leadership were related to nurses' perceived quality of care and that job satisfaction acted as a mediator between these 2 antecedents (ie, organizational and managerial determinants) and this outcome (ie, quality of care).

Investigating the longitudinal effects of surface acting on managers' functioning through psychological needs.

This study is based on the premise that managers are expected to regulate their emotions in the form of surface acting. More specifically, drawing on self-determination theory, we explored the role of psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness in explaining the influence of surface acting on supervisors' job satisfaction and work engagement over time. Data were collected at 2 time points, over a 3-month period, from a sample of 435 French managers working in the health care industry.

Isolation and characterization of a psychrotolerant toxin producer, Bacillus weihenstephanensis, in liquid egg products.

A psychrotolerant bacteria of the Bacillus cereus group was found responsible for the spoilage of whole liquid egg products. By sequencing a 16S rRNA region and performing a PCR amplification of specific 16S rRNA and cspA signatures, a Bacillus weihenstephanensis was identified. Characterization of this strain shows its ability to grow in defined medium as well as in whole liquid egg at refrigerated temperatures.
