Background: The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) is the most accurate cognitive screening tool for early diagnoses of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). However, the majority of research on the correlation between MCI and periodontitis has been conducted using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE).

[Impact of acute lymphoblastic leukemia on the microbiome and oral lesions: scoping review].

Objective: To describe the existing knowledge about the alterations of the MBO oral microbiome and the presence of OL Oral Lesions in patients with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia ALL.

Materials And Methods: An electronic search was carried out in the PubMed, SciELO, and academic Google databases, and descriptive, analytical, observational articles on MBO, OL, and ALL were included, following the PRISMA criteria. 642 were evaluated, duplicate articles, case reports, and those where only changes were reported during or after chemotherapy treatment were eliminated.

Barriers to early diagnosis and management of oral cancer in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Objective: This study aimed to explore perceived barriers to early diagnosis and management of oral cancer, as well as potential pathways for improvement in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

Methods: This cross-sectional study used a self-administered online questionnaire created via the Research Electronic Data Capture platform. The survey was distributed to health professionals trained in Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Dentists with clinical and academic expertise in oral potentially malignant disorder (OPMD) and oral cancer.

Oral cancer and precancer in Oral Pathology and Medicine curricula of Mexican dental schools.

Objective: To identify the teaching-learning process characteristics of Oral Pathology and Medicine (OP&M) related to oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) and oral cancer (OC), in the dental schools' curricula in Mexico, to analyze the approach given to this topic worldwide, and to provide the possible solution strategies.

Materials And Methods: Questionnaires were sent to OP&M deans and professors from public Mexican Universities to explore the curriculum and academic profile of the dental schools. The recommendations gathered from a workshop with expert professors on the challenges in OPMD/OC teaching were reported.

Oral management of children/adolescents with ectrodactyly-ectodermal dysplasia-clefting (EEC) syndrome: A scoping review.

Aims: EEC is a rare syndrome characterized by the triad of ectrodactyly, ectodermal dysplasia, and orofacial clefting, along with other clinical manifestations mainly in hair, skin, and teeth. The present paper aimed to perform a scoping review to collect the most relevant studies and focused on the diagnosis and oral management of EEC syndrome in the pediatric dental setting. This review also pretended to make recommendations and map the gaps in this clinical topic.

Do fluoroquinolone agents produce therapeutic benefits or harmful effects in patients with periodontitis? A systematic review and meta-analysis.

The adjunctive use of fluoroquinolone (FQ) agents in patients with periodontitis produces contradictory results. There has been no meta-analysis performed based on the evaluations of FQ use that would enable making appropriate clinical decisions. Our study aimed to evaluate, via a systematic review and metaanalysis conducted in accordance with the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines, the clinical benefits, antimicrobial effects and safety profiles of the FQ agents administered to periodontitis patients under a conventional treatment regime.

Effect of Five Commercial Probiotic Formulations on Candida Albicans Growth: In Vitro Study.

Purpose: The objective was to evaluate the antagonistic effect of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium recovered from five commercial probiotics on the growth of C. albicans.

Study Design: The Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains of five commercial probiotics were recovered and grown: Probio Hp+®, ProBiseis®, Lactipan®, Liolactil®, and Lacteol Fort®; 50 mg of each was hydrated and grown in Lactobacilli MRS (De Man, Rogosa and Sharpe) broth and incubated at 37°C with stirring (120 RPM) for 24 hours.

Effect of cytomegalovirus infection and leukocyte immunoglobulin like receptor B1 polymorphisms on receptor expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells.

Leukocyte immunoglobulin like receptor B1 (LILRB1) plays a significant role in a number of infectious, autoimmune, cardiovascular, and oncologic disorders. LILRB1 expression varies between individuals and may be associated with polymorphisms on the regulatory region of the LILRB1 gene, as well as to previous cytomegalovirus infection. In this study, the contribution of these two factors to LILRB1 expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of healthy young adults was analyzed.

Measurement of levofloxacin in human plasma samples for a reliable and accessible drug monitoring.

Objectives: Levofloxacin monitoring is recommended to obtain clinical cure and low incidence of antimicrobial resistance. During the monitoring procedure, levofloxacin should be measured in plasma samples and several assays are reported for this purpose. However, those methods do not have all of the characteristics for an accessible and reliable drug monitoring.
