The capture of CO emissions using porous solids is challenging because polar water molecules bind more strongly in most materials than non-polar CO molecules. This is a challenge for both flue gas capture and for direct air capture alike. Here we develop a bottom-up computational screening workflow to calculate the binding energy of 27,446 diverse molecular fragments with both CO and water.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe separation of carbon dioxide from industrial flue gas streams using porous materials is often thwarted by humidity. Most porous sorbents adsorb water more effectively than CO. Hence, water can out-compete CO for adsorption sites, lowering the working CO sorption capacity and increasing sorbent regeneration costs.

Background: Several studies have evaluated physiotherapy treatment and/or post-operative care for chronic lumbar radicular pain (CLRP). The extent, range, and nature of research addressing self-management for CLRP is not clear. This scoping review explores existing research evaluating self-management interventions for CLRP.

Objectives: Abbreviated breast MRI (abMRI) is being introduced into breast screening practice worldwide. Increased provision of abMRI will require mammogram readers to learn abMRI-interpretation and the implementation of abMRI-reading into clinical practice. The present study explores the acceptability of the implementation of developed reader training, and the barriers and facilitators to training programme participation and subsequently to reading the training programme assessment task of abMRI images in a work/NHS context familiar to the individual participants.

Background: There is no single classification system or diagnostic protocol for speech sound disorder (SSD). This makes it difficult to collect large-scale outcome data and determine which interventions work best for which subtypes of SSD. The United Kingdom is unique in that its publicly funded healthcare system allows the collection of such outcome data across large numbers of children; however, a necessary first step towards this is to agree on a consistent diagnostic protocol and classification system for SSD that is feasible for use in the UK healthcare system.

Understanding what outcomes are important and meaningful to people living with MCI and developing a core outcome set (COS) for research and clinical practice will improve the impact of clinical research and contribute towards developing effective care pathways for MCI. This study aims to develop a COS for adults living with MCI intended for use in interventional and clinical settings.

Objective: The aim of this study was to understand the needs of young people, aged 16 to 20 years, born with cleft lip and/or palate (CL/P) approaching end of routine care, in the United Kingdom (UK).
Design: Nominal group technique was used during 2 online focus groups to identify priorities for cleft care at transition to adult care. Focus group discussions were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis.
Objectives: To descriptively compare and contrast intervention techniques for preschool children with features of developmental language disorder (outcome: oral vocabulary) and speech sound disorder (outcome: speech comprehensibility) and analyse them in relation to effectiveness and theory.
Design: This is a systematic review with narrative synthesis. The process was supported by an expert steering group consisting of relevant professionals and people with lived experience.

Objectives: Family members of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients can experience mental health difficulties. These are collectively described as Post Intensive Care Syndrome-Family (PICS-F). There are no standardised outcome measures to benchmark the impact of PICS-F.

Symptoms worsen over time and include breathlessness, tiredness, and cough, giving rise to psychological distress. Significant morbidity accompanies PF, so ensuring patients' care needs are well defined and provided for, represents an important treatment strategy.

There is a need to establish which care pathways are most effective and efficient for children with SSD. Comparison of care pathways requires clearly defined, evidence-based, interventions and agreement on how to measure the outcomes.

However, past studies are limited by small sample sizes and design and measurement heterogeneity. Using data from the Head and Neck 5000 longitudinal cohort, we investigated pain over a year post-diagnosis.

Cell culture and animal studies have demonstrated potential reproductive toxicity of these particles; however, their association with adverse fertility or pregnancy outcomes in humans is not known.
Objectives: To synthesise evidence for the presence of microplastics in human reproductive tissue and their associations with environmental exposures and reproductive outcomes.
Background: Early language delay is exacerbated by social disadvantage. Factors such as parents' low levels of literacy, confidence and self-perception can affect the capacity to act on advice received, critical to empowerment. Methods used to achieve successful health outcomes in socially disadvantaged clinical populations may need enhancing.

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is highly prevalent in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). The gold standard treatment for OSA is continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). Long-term, well-powered efficacy trials are required to understand whether CPAP could slow cognitive decline in individuals with MCI/AD, but its tolerability in this group remains uncertain.

Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a common side-effect of cancer and its treatments. For head and neck cancer (HNC), CRF may exacerbate the symptom burden and poor quality-of-life. Using data from the Head and Neck 5000 prospective clinical cohort, we investigated clinically important CRF over a year post-diagnosis, assessing temporal trends, CRF by HNC site and treatment received, and subgroups at higher risk of CRF.

Women are expected to understand unfamiliar terminology and assess potential harm versus benefit to their baby and themselves, often when an urgent intervention is required. Time pressures of intrapartum interventions are a major challenge for recruitment discussions taking place during labour, with research midwives expected to present, discuss and answer questions whilst maintaining equipoise.

A co-occurring DLD and SSD profile is associated with negative long-term outcomes relating to communication, literacy and emotional well-being. However, the best treatment approach for young children with this profile is not understood.

Understanding people's QoL and what is important to them, is part of providing holistic care.
